My friend and i are having some difficulty grouping together.

My friend and i tried to join up together and do some deadspace npc killing and we had some difficulty when we paired together. We had multiple issues trying to team up together and fighting npcs. I bet most of our problems are newb stuff that is easily fixable but we are newbs.

1. We did know that we should join in a fleet together so that is what we did. we met up at one of the stations in the system and we figured out how to warp together. We were going to an angel hideout npc spawn place. we arrived at the acceleration gate but were not able to do the warp together thing. Is that normal or are we missing something?

2. Once we both got there we killed a bunch of the guys and started looting the wrecks. we noticed that when we grabbed each others wrecks that we had not killed ourselves that it said it was a criminal offense. We were in a fleet together so i thought that would not happen. Is there a fleet setting that i should have clicked so this does not happen again. Obviously we are not going to attack each other we just figured we were doing something wrong. We are wow vets and we know party settings can be changed to allow looting for anyone in the party just was wondering if that is a setting we did not find.

3. Also once we cleared the first gate i let him get the key for the second one and i had a key from a previous clear so we were both able to accelerate to the next area. Is there a way for us to use that one key for the both of us to continue to the second level?

As i said we are both new to playing so we understand that these might be real easy things to fix we just could not find it. Thanks for any help that you can give.

First are you sure you were in a 'Fleet' together? One of you has to right click on the other's name and select "Form Fleet With..." and then the second has to accept that invite at which point you both get a fleet chat channel and a fleet window.

Second, you can't fleet/wing/squad warp through an acceleration gate. But if the gate is activated by a key, it stays activated for about 10 seconds and anyone can use it during that time frame. So the first guy with the key activates it, and the rest follow in quick seccession.

Wreaks, I'm not sure why if you were fleeted you couldn't loot each other's wreaks legally, unless one of you went back to station and docked up. I believe that breaks the fleet link on those wreaks and if you are not in the same corp you will get that. To make it so that you can always loot each other's wreaks, set each other to have an Excellent personal standing, but this will continue after you have left fleet, so you might want to reset this afterwards.

We were in fleet together cause i could warp us both together as a squad or fleet. I don't think we have the standing thing done but i do know how to do that so we will probably do that. We are RL friends so we are not going to worry about jacking each others stuff. Thanks for clearing up the gate key thing that should help us out next time.

I appreciate the help.

Being in a fleet does not change any rules of player aggression/thievery. Your loot is yours and his is his. You can abandon the wrecks if you want to share that loot, or just divide it up once you get back to station.

As far as plex gates and keys, as long as 1 person uses the key, it remains open for a short period of time (I've seen people follow me in locked 3/10 plexes). So as long as he's nearby, that shouldn't be much of a problem.

True, but the big problem is that you can't tractor in each other's loot, so clearing up the field after the battle is a pain. Set the standing thing, that will sort it out.

As long as you are in the same system and in fleet the same fleet, you should be able to take from somebodies else wrecks/cans. Please file a bug report.

If one person is docked while your trying to loot his wrecks that will get you flagged (atleast this is what i have seen happen). If you where both IN the room and still get flagged and you where in a fleet i would advice filing a bug report as someone else here said.

To activate the gate when only one of you have a key. Someone already said it but yes there is a short timeframe where the gate will be open so your friend can warp in. Im guessing its about 15 to 30 seconds.

If you set standings that should sort out the issue with looting eachothers wrecks. Another way to sort it is that your both in the same corp. So if you dont have any plans to join a corp for a while you can create your own corp and both of you join it.

I've fleeted with complete strangers and never had any problems with wrecks or jetcans. If the owner leaves fleet, then they turn yellow and can't be tractored anymore.

When taking is not stealing

If you do not own a loot or jettison container, you may still have an implicit right to take from it. However, this is only if the owner of the container:

* Has given you a personal standing of 10
* Is in the same player corporation as you
* Is in the same gang as you (and is located in the same solar system as you).
* Since Dominion it has been possible for a player to set their wrecks as "available to all". This allows anyone to take from their wrecks and cans without any consequences. Wrecks marked this way appear blue on the overview, rather than the usual yellow or white.

If you dock up or leave system, the wrecks will also go yellow.
