CCP's posted nothing yet. Expect it on monday, they just took everything plus more from the guys involved earlier today.

wow, i've actually just lost a lot of respect for CCP. i started playing this game because this kind of thing was possible and they didn't punish players for their own **** ups like blizzard did to wow players. not only are they removing "ill gotten gains" they're also removing extra stuff as some kind of kick a man while he's down tactic?

guess the jewbal forgot to lube up first if CCP are really that butthurt they're going past "justice" all the way to retribution.

The Jewbal had a lot of self restraint with this, they could have done serious, long term damage but they didn't. I wouldn't expect them to be so well restrained in the future if they are just going to get shafted this time.

Oh noes! Goonie threats!

I'm sure CCP wouldn't just take those gains either?

I actually don't know enough about what happened here to say whether the response was appropriate. We also don't know the final outcome here given the lack of a formal CCP response - maybe they just confiscated it all while they review what went on?

I'm just having a good laugh at our goonie friends who always tell others to HTFU but when it comes to their own issues they cry more than highsec carebear miners who go afk for 30 minutes and get ganked.

I was wondering what would happen about this.

Ulitmately, the Goons took advantage of an unintended consequence of an existing game mechanic.

I'd feel sorrier for them if they found it, told CCP, and then they got slapped for it. Instead, they found it, screwed it six ways to Sunday, then told CCP, forcing them to slam the door shut so no one else could take advantage of it while they laugh all the way to the bank.

CCP had to take action, otherwise everyone else would start screaming "But the Goons got away with it..." every time someone abused a game mechanic.

Just because it's a sandbox doesn't mean you can start making castles out of cement, even if CCP leaves some bags lying around by accident.

CCP has had trouble following laundered ISK in the past, so it's not totally unreasonable for them to confiscate ISK and assets during the investigation (provided that the investigation is over very soon). We don't know all the details, but if they literally confiscated EVERYTHING, not just assets involved in this FW deal, then that does seem a bit harsh.

It actually isn't at all unusual for CCP to lock accounts or freeze assets during investigations; its been done on many occasions of alleged hacking or abuse in the past. I'm just amused at them doing it on a Friday and peacing out for the weekend. Also they're generally inept so they almost certainly took everything the bros that accomplished this feat have rather than just the suspected evidence. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they're staring at massive negative account balances right now because, "math is hard".

You goons knew the risks, unless the lot of you really are every bit as stupidly shortsighted and myopic as your most militant detractors make you out to be.

Try using something that doesn't look as much like a possible duping-exploit next time, and be thankful you didn't get ban-hammered (as far as I know?).

Action <---> consequence.

That is all.

Star Wars: the Old Republic may not be EVE. But I'll take the sound of dual blaster-pistols over "NURVV CLAOKING NAOW!!!11oneone!!" any day of the week.

Interesting turn of events. I wouldn't say Goons screwed the mechanic six ways from sunday. They tested it to its limits so they knew what they needed to tell CCP. If they just said "oh we noticed this" CCP would slap a band aid on it....then another band aid on the next problem and the next likely opening up more problems because of a lack of understanding of what the real issue was since we've been shown time and again that CCP doesn't properly test and review the things they add to the game hence the need for more expansions like Crucible to fix all the screwups.

So the goons made some isk, who cares the goons can make however much isk they want when they want, why punish them for for doing CCP's job.

Locking away assets that are involved in an investigation is pretty normal. CCP Screegs making arrogant posts about unspecified consequences etc... etc... is also pretty normal. He's a goon after all.

i don't see why they're investigating anything. the mechanic has been fixed (hasn't it?)

not like it's a secret that the goons have more money than any one else due to the joy of tech moons so a bit more isk is hardly providing an unfair advantage over other players.

Not only that but CCP was warned about this long in advance while testing these feature on SiSi. Then warned again while it was going on... by the people doing it! It was promptly fixed once someone actually started doing it.

Goons... better at Eve than the guys that made the game; let's ban them!

This discussion is fascinating, but what I want to know is whether the Queen should meet Martin McGuiness or not.

Thanks.
