Mission Levels and appropriate DPS and Tank per tier

So, the question I am asking is what level of DPS and TANK does one need for each of the missioning tiers?

What level of DPS and Tank do I need before I start running L2 missions?

L3 Missions?

L4 Missions?

I have one character in a Drake with a Shield Tank of 347dps and does 187dps in Damage
My other character is in a Shield Tanked Myrmidon at 362dps and does 216dps in Damage

Since I am doing L3 missions I am trying to fiigure out if I am over tanking to much for this missioning teir and if so, where should I reasonably have the Tank at. If I can lower my tank a bit, and boost damage, all the better.

Does this make sense?

Tank depends on your speed, sig, if you manage triggers and kill the dangerous rats in a timely fashion and overall effective dps.

With 600dps tank you can do most lvl4 easily.

Some lvl4 cannot be done with less than 400(effective) dps.

you generally don't need more than ~200 tank in lvl3s, so refit both ships for MOAR DMG. for lvl4s you should rather use a battleship.

I should buy an Ishtar.

For level 4s, I look for at least 500 dps and at least 600 dps tank, though you could manage with less if you're flying a smaller ship (T3).

So we are looking at this:

L2 Missions: 100+dps TANK and 100+dps Damage

L3 Missions: 200+dps TANK and 200+dps Damage

L4 Missions: 600+dps TANK and 400+dps Damage

L4s are a big jump then...

For L4's:

400-500 DPS tank is enough. 400 DPS will get it done, but you'll want north of 500 to clear them fast. A 600+ DPS tank can basically stand there and soak it up, and probably requires you to sacrifice deeps to get there. Don't do that.

I'd just like to add that when your skills are getting better, your dps will be also part of your tank. Thing is, the faster you kill them, the less you have to tank and for shorter time. With 1k-ish dps I've been running some L4 missions with tank as low as 400 or even 350. I don't recommend you do that right off the bat, but try to keep it in mind: first try to maximize dps, while keeping tank as close to the edge of survivability as you are comfortable with.

These last weeks when i play,rarely, i use a t3 with 900dps and 250 tank (ancillary,not perma).
Requires some micro management but can be done, most of the time i dont even need 1 rep.

You can do most L4s without a DPS tank if you sig/speed tank. Heck, do them in a speed tanked webbing Caracal: at all-5s there's enough DPS in that ship to finish missions (though it will take a while).

True, of course. I've been tanking AE bonus in a Dramiel. But it doesn't mean I could finish it solo (I couldn't, I didn't).

My point is that most forms of tanking require some sort of compromise, basically boiling down to tank at the cost of dps and vice versa, while dps tank, which in fact isn't anything special, it's just a way of looking at things, means synergy (if you excuse me using popular bullshit word): better dps, faster mission, better cash flow AND better safety. That's why, IMO, the priority should be put on improving dps.

Assuming the ship survives at all, that is.

Yup :)

My bias is to encourage newer players to over-tank, focus on T2 tank first, then work on DPS from there. That's probably the over-conservative approach (like trying to play a defensive game in StarCraft).
