This is my opinion after seeing all the four races receiving the V3 treatment:

Before:
Amarr: Golden
Minmatar: Red
Gallente: Green
Caldari: Blue

After:
Amarr: Brown
Minmatar: Brown
Gallente: Grey
Caldari: Grey

Okay, maybe that's slightly overgeneralized, but I get the feeling that for 5 out of 6 ships it fits. Despite all the additional details added, I personally feel that we lost more than we gained. There's simply something missing now... like someone replacing a patch of wild grass and flowers with a parking lot. Sure, the parking lot is more useful and modern, but it's still dull, grey, uniformously uninspiring and simply not beautiful.

I'm sorry that I feel this way - I understand of course that there is important technical groundwork laid in these reworks. But for me as a player, what I notice is how it looks. And to me it simply looks like someone replaced colors with greyscale.

V3 is essential for the new lighting system CCP wants to implement, which should add a lot of depth to the look and feel of flying in space. For example bounce light from nearby planets will illuminate hulls facing them, stuff like that.

V3 also allows custom ship decals and customisation, so what we have now is just the beginning. Think of it all as a work in progress.

So why is it that all the factions have to be outrageously painted in their 'national colors'? Ok, Caldari and Gallente ships have alot of grey on them. One has blue lights, the other are green. One is incredibly angular and asymmetrical, the other not so much. There's much more to the visual identity of a ship than the color of it's hull, sir. Even if both minmatar and Amarr are brown I'll be able to tell them apart because the Amarr ships look like actual resources and care went into their production whereas the Minmatar hulls will be ramshackle and dangerous looking.

Besides, the old color schemes I thought were kind of garish; these muted colors for Caldari and Gallente are a bit easier on the eyes. Except the new Drake, because it's trying to double back into being colorful.

Gone is the Absolution/Pilgirm red accents. Gone the rich greens on many Gallente ships. Gone the beatiful black of the Khanid ships. Gone the distinctive fin shapes on Minmatar ships such as the Hound and Vaga.

In fact, what gets a new discintive accent but the DrakeWhat?

What we seem to be getting is various shades of diarhea, ok shiney diarhea. But poop colors are still poop colors. These are spaceships. Color means nothing for survivability. Detection is coming from energy and heat signatures. Camo makes no sense and if it did they would be pitch balck with a few random sparkles. Why can't we keep the rich red stripes, green spots, and disctinctive fins?

At one point many years ago some player had painted his own reskin on a geddon. It was white with gold trim. He was correct that it made sense for a religious nutjob culture that saw itself as god's crusaders to have such a view of themselves etched into the appearance of their ships. That player reskin was better than any of the v3 reskins tbh. "Shiney" is not everything.

I really don't understand the decisions being made in this process. Ugh

OP is right and multiple, multiple people agree with him. For the most part, V3 has made the ships look like ****. What was done to the Amarr line is a travesty. I tried to get some answers from the devs but they were vauge about it but state that it will look better once they have all of V3 is done and they flip the switch on some new lighting tricks they have waiting.

When will this be done? who knows and devs will not answer
Will the switch being flipped help out on the colors? who knows and devs will not answer
What exactly is this switch they have mentioned? who knows and devs will not answer
Are the ugly, bland colors a new direction the art department wants to take us and we have lost the "colors" forever? who knows and devs will not answer

I got the CSM involved to see if we can get a dev blog from the art department and Selene stated she/he wants this as well and mentioned it at the CSM summet and will try to push for it again so we will see

i actually loved the V3. I love the darkness, I love the new amarr, and I am very worried about this knee jerk reaction of making things lighter really sloppily. i know a lot of players agree with me. To quote an eloquent poster form earlier in the thread, there are "multiple, multiple" people who agree with me.

also, choosing to paint a ship camo makes just as much sense as painting your ship any other color in space, and it makes a world more sense than thinking that rust could occur on the hull of a spaceship.

Sorry no. Was a couple years ago and was a link in thread that is in the archive by now. Was very striking though and appropriate. White crusader knight outfit and all that. May have been with the trinity upgrade threads.

The red gold layout is absolutely gorgeous..

Now if someone could just add a third mid to the retri so that i can actually USE IT....

CCP: All ships now being generally bland and so so would surely not drive people to the Aur store and pick up our new fabulous bright and sharp ship skins for a nominal fee.... now would it.... huh?

IMO, the new darker colours are great.
Current Amarr ships actually look like they are Plated in Gold, Rather than the 'Regurgitated Cat Food Brown' that they were before.
Abso/Retri's dark red is gorgeous, and the Sacrilege is the single most sexy amarr ship.

Keep in mind, this is EVE. Not Rainbow Sparkles online. If you want to fly a Clown Ship with Rainbow engine Trails, youre playing the wrong game.
IMO, Dark and sinister is a better fit for the overall feel of EVE.
Caldari ships are Gray. Bland? Maybe. But Bland is the Caldari Flavour, Bland is why I love Caldari, and Bland is why Caldari (Used to Have) more Flavour than other Races. Now that other Races ships look less like Space Pinatas and more like serious buisness, I may actually Crosstrain.

The old Carthum ships were hideous. The bright cherry red and off-gold colors made it look like someone just took the reddest paint they could find and dumped it on certain parts of the hull, and, on the underside of the old Retribution, the little pipes didn't look gold, but rather more like some other oxidized metal, probably bronze or somesuch. The new deep, wine reds and darker golden yellows on Carthum ships I think is a very good choice; Yes, it's hard to see in areas where there isn't a nebula, but who cares? It's not like your survival depends on being able to see the dark side of your ship.

Nor were many Gallente ships in posession of 'rich' greens. They were drab and dull looking. They still are color-wise, but they've got better reflections on them now. Also, Creo-dron ships are iridescent. They have greyish blue hulls with a green shine to them, which I think looks great. Old creo-dron just looked silly.

The only T2 ships of any sort that I have any beef with are Lai Dai; they are the only line of T2 ships that look consistently bad across all ship classes that they produce T2 variants for. The Hawk just looks stupid.

As for the fins and such on the Hound and the Vagabond, the latter looked like a neo-cubist **** with ears with those solar panels jammed awkwardly onto it's front. I literally rejoiced when I noticed they were gone. As for the hound, I suppose it could do with more details, but I don't think it suffers without them necessarily.

i agree with almost everything you say. however, while the stabber hull looks ugly, i think the ears should go back on the vaga. many other T2 ships including many/most HACs have cute doodads that set them apart, the stabber feels just a little too paltry without them... the balance of the hull is kinda off once you are used to having them. but still they should just redo that hull with the crucifier and a few others. otherwise, yes, i agree, lili lu just has kinda bad taste in art design. i think CCP is taking generally the right direction. also, isn't the basilisk laidai and doesn't it look cool? might be wrong...

Wait, when did someone ask for these things?

And that statement alone makes your opinion on these matters pretty irrelevant if you believe ppl were actually asking for that.

Also, to the poster that complained like someone had just splashed the red over the hulls randomly...i'll take that red over the poop-brown that now covers most Amarr hulls...making them look like they took a swim in the toilet before leaving spacedock.
