For now, it's just words.

BINGO!

CCP, Please focus on making EVE PvP fun again.

Indeed. It's interesting that Hellmar brought up 2003...I've been around since 04 and what I really miss, that no MMO has been able to really deliver, is the ability to go out in a small fast ship alone or with a couple of friends, go balls to the wall and have a good time. Now it's mostly a numbers game, with massive alliance blobs controlling .0 and boring cookie-cutter missile fits dominating PvE. Incursion and wormholes were bright glimmers of a possibly glorious future, but neither was carried to their logical ends and they too have fallen victim to LCD strategy. Basically CCP needs to focus on making Eve *fun*, not bigger or shinier or with more bullet points to list on the box.

Well, Hilmar, these things happen when people put money ahead of substance and the needs of the customer. You said your sorry, great, but this still doesn't mean you are not a greedy sack. You lost your way, fine, you will fix it. Getting back the trust of the players will remain to be seen. Growth, in and of itself, is admirable in any business. It must be measured with patience and tempered with the opinions of the people in charge of your paychecks.....US. All extraneous additions that expand the "in station" game play should only be implemented to the game server after they are complete. Test all you want but don't deliver slivers of content without first asking the community their opinions and ideas first. But of course you know this now. The future of the game, as proposed, looks fantastic: more immersion for players while not flying in space, bigger and better mods and functions for game play, a wealth of unique items for players to wear (and hopefully sport in their quarters, like vats to display your most prized corpses or posters and wall papers) as well as possibly merging Eve with Dust (though this may be a long way off). The future can be great indeed, babysteps.....any departure from what should be a close relationship with your customer base will result in the EVEverse collapsing in a big crunch.

There are, as of yet, no feminine hygiene products in the Nex store. Not sure how you're gonna solve that issue.

Inspire me, not with your words, but your actions and your content. Make EVE impress me and draw me back in, as I once was. Until then, I will remain a single account on a plex.

I commend the guy for being honest and humble easpically in todays society, and have respect for people who can be honest,

Just from my prospective about the game, the content which was implemented has been moving forward but has left the original content lacking

]Incursion's were a good idea and a twist on things, tho would of have been possible to change the racial incursions every so often so it spiced it up alittle more,

Wormholes were an ok ish idea, i like the design behind them making travel from onside of the galaxy to another, - i have not expereinced this content myself as it dose not appeal to me,

NPC missions get old and stagnant very quick lvl 4 to lvl 5 are a massive step, new missions are ok but they can get old very fast,

my main pvp days ended when Nano ships was all the rage as it was insane and not practical for a BS to go at those speeds

in general all the content at the moment is ok for 2-3 months then it gets old again,

The char store to buy clothes what in gods earth was that all about, if i wanted that i would play wow or other mmo's this is eve and is a significant different game to wow, so keep it that ways its the selling point im my opinion.

soon Star Wars online will be out, i hope this was not a PR stunt to try and entice those wavering as to play other mmo's because CCP admit they have borked the design and spirit of the game?

Yes, the rollout of Incarna and the shop were premature, yes they came at the cost of badly needed game updates and fixes, but the only thing that really bothered me or the people I fly with was the stupid anom nerf that micturated all over our hard work winning, holding and upgrading our space.

I appreciate Hilmars mea culpa, I'm sure some of his employees appreciate it far more than we players do - but I do hope that its not the start of a lilly livered, weak kneed CCP that flip flops on every decision based on flavour of the month grumbles.

There will always be Luddities - (even in a sandbox internet spaceship game!) and those people will always want to keep things "the same". They don't want to come out of the cave and investigate fire (you'll get burned!). They dont like the wheel (whats wrong with legs?) they dont want to go into space (solve the problems here on earth first) A long term strategic plan like incarna requires a long term focus. I think it will be worth the effort in the end. The opposing opinion: "Eve isnt about walking in stations" is asinine. Of course it isnt about that - yet - argue for your limitations and you get to keep them.

Oh and while I'm here: boost Hybrids (obviously!).

I'm truly impressed with this blog. This does restore hope and in the longer run faith as well.

I've played this game on and off since beta, and what Hilmar is displaying now is really what is needed. He has my respect, moreso for his humbleness. Great men are born from humbleness, and great men achieve great things. Therefore, I see a brighter future for EVE.

Not sure about the ending of pay to play. I actually think this F2P is a very bad development in the MMO industry. Instant gratification with a subsequent dissapointment:"Cool, it's free..... Duh, can't do a darn fun thing without buying tons of stuff that I cannot afford anyway......." I think the sub concept is pretty solid.
Mark my words: soon this F2P concept will be abandoned by more and more companies. I've seen many games with great potential going to ruin due to F2P.

Anyway, Hilmar, great to have you back, and I'm very curious to see what you have waiting for us! Cool

Yes and no. It might be a part of the future, too.

i prefer a good subscription-based game too.

How much did you pay for spin doctors to pump out this piece of....stuff.

I'm still not re-subbing the other 10 accounts and this one dies soon. Maybe you should have had the "lets get the basics right" epiphany 3 years ago when we were all saying "fix the damned lag/bugs/little ponies and NO MORE WORTHLESS BLING!!!". Ignorance is bliss...right up to the point where it bites you in the butt.

I'm really finding it hard to give a damn any more. Too little too late is what immediately springs to mind, and the lag (no pun intended) between words and actions will likely be too long to save the day IMHO. After 5 1/2 years and close to $20k down the drain, I still have this taste of vomit at the back of my throat.

Anyway, that's my 0.05 ISK worth...I'm off to play tanks :p

I appreciate the honesty.

Once Incarna hits its stride, EVE will be more personal, and thus more accessible to general audiences. Visual self-expression in a virtual setting is a core psychological component of gaming; most people need to see their avatars, or something vaguely humanoid, or else they don’t connect with the game. We were behind the curve and it needs to be addressed for the sake of EVE’s longevity. We have the technology. Now we need time to add the content that will bring more meaning to the gameplay—again, without disrupting the space combat simulator that many of you are, or at least were, very much in love with—and without delaying crucial improvements that this core experience desperately needs.

I think this entire sentiment is highly foolish. People do not want connection with their avatars, because the avatar has no personality. Eve has always had the player as the pilot: this, however, is not a traditional roleplaying experience. The character creator is impressive, however that is the full extent of "me" that I see or care about. My ships, however, are still the thing I love the most.

T3 ships are by far the most alluring part of the game - why? - aesthetic modifications. Redesign the game one ship class at a time until you have basic models, then mods which you can put on top of them. Give players something they're proud to fly, because they spent the time designing it. Allow us to create symbols (even using pre-made palettes) and modify the shape and color of our ships. I realize it might be a bit much for the engine (especially in blob warfare), however this is the direction to go to make people care. It doesn't have to be anything in specific, but if you want attachment, give us RPG customization elements (even vanity ones) in the core gameplay experience. Don't bother with things on the side.

There is no direct character interaction and your character doesn't have dialogue or story; there are no emotions or background to investigate. Spaceships are the core of Eve. So, I ask you: what the hell were you guys thinking?

Incarna didn't give us characters or avatars: they gave us mannequins.

I suspect that a large part of the drop in subscribers is the competition from World of Tanks. Been there myself and I know a whole bunch of others who are still there, leaving their Eve dormant.

It's hard to give up a dream and walking in stations was a dream for CCP staff as far back as the first fan fest (which I did attend).

It's even harder to admit you have been wrong as CEO, in the direction you have taken a company, especially.

The cynics may believe this is just spin and vapour but I can believe that Hellmar will put as much energy into getting Eve "back on track" as he has taking us to Incarna.

I hope they "fix" 0.0 and the blob alliances/cartels. Imho it's broken atm. Personally I want a 0.0 in which the small corp/alliance can survive, build and fight without the constant threat of being wiped out over-night or having to rent to massive alliances.

I miss the days when 0.0 was almost empty and you felt like an explorer in the wilderness.

From a strategic perspective, we had to take these first steps because monthly subscriptions are increasingly becoming a thing of the past. The culture of online gaming is changing, just as the notion of digital ownership did with music. If we don’t evolve our technology, our game design and our revenue model, then we risk obsolescence, and we just can’t allow that to happen to EVE or to our community.

CCP used to do things differently, and quite successfully. Why start running behind trends now, like "me too"?
I'm another +1 for keeping the subscription model.

The game needs new ships.

Don't introduce new ships if you can't find roles for them without obsoleting existing ones and creating imbalance. In that regard, the stats and capabilities given to T3s were a mistake.

Well Said,,,,

My point on this subject is one I had while playing MMO's. To make a quality appealing game, you must fix what's wrong first, and then move forward.

I applaud your efforts to produce a new expansion every 6 months, and for free is also VERY nice.

And to get the Quality into a expansion with the complexities of the game that is evolving. You may have to rethink the 6month schedule. I'm an older player, I have a lot to keep me involved and interested in this great and wonderful universe. The younger crowd might think otherwise.

Incarna is bound to be the greatest expansion thus far. Station -Player interaction, with planet side game play. But as you all know, if it isn't done right and with quality that the player community comes to expect, it could also be the worse.

finally a blog i can support and is nice

i think i speak for all or maybe allot of EVE players:

"We don't want more "sims 3" activities or expantions, we want more spaceship business, we didn't play EVE to get another sims 3 copy, we played EVE because it was UNIQUE, not another 14-year-old-game"

so yes, fix game mechanics, fix null-sec, fix FW, add more ships, and don't forget its a game about serious spaceships :P

so i am fary please CCP can see that now :)
