Hello forums!

So I am finally getting a new computer for EVE this ancient laptop doesn't cut it anymore so I am looking around for a new computer,Laptop is preferred cause of portability but if there's a powerful enough desktop il go for that as well.I was going for an Inspirion15R with some shiny specs but i thought id be best going here first for advice. Are ye aware of any computers that could fit the task of playing eve?if it could run 2 clients comfortably would be great if not then cant do much.im looking around 700euro price mark.or even some linkage to a site that has good computers would be awesome.

I have been stuck with a crappy intel card and a crappy intel processor for too long now and i dont trust Dell,Also No Mac Books. Please helpBig smile

Try envisage solutions ltd. They are an English firm.

Look for what you want and then type it into eBay or amazon. They have shops on both.

any clone builders who have the word "solutions" in the name will be overpriced and underpowered

I'd build my own, but that's just me

a case (any old case will do, new ones often come with a power supply)

an asus MOBO with intel i7 processor
4-8mb RAM (depending on OS limits)
Geforce 550ti
2 x 500mb SATA3 HDD (or you can just go with one for now)
Cheap dvd drive or a sony super multi blu burner (burn all formats +bluray for under 100 bucks)
Windows builder disk [OEM] (win 7 64bit home premium or professional)
onboard audio or a cheap soundblaster based audio card
decent LCD monitor

scavenge the rest, keyboard, mouse

I have much the same but with 16mb ddr3 1333 ram. Your probably right about them but if you not a builder why not pay someone in the UK 500 GBP what would cost close to 1300 euro in Ireland . No brainer for me here's my credit card

Im in Ireland also and it should not cost 1300 euro to build a gaming PC. I built the last 4 of my gaming PC's myself and never spent more than 800-1000 euro on them. And that was high end gear. There is no game on the market i cannot play maxxed out with my pc.

My PC has:
Corsair 16GB DDR3 1600mhz ram (€95)
AMD FX 8150 8 core processor @ 3.6Ghz (€200)
Geforce 560 1GB x 2 (SLI'd) (€167 each)
Sabertooth 990FX motherboard (€150)
1TB Internal HD (€80)

Total: 692 euro (869 euro if you want to use 2 graphics cards)

Extra
2TB Internal HD

Depending what part of ireland your in i can build your PC for you. No charge. Im presuming you have a monitor and keyboard and mouse somewhere. Those can be scavanged easily enough.

If you have never had a desktop computer before then extra expenses will incur such as:
Chasis: Between €30 to €150 depending on what type you want,
Monitor: €150
Keyboard and Mouse: €40
Speakers: €50
W7 32bit OS: €60

try using www.komplett.ie thats where i buy all my hardware from. They even have hold courses in blanchardstown every now and again to teach you how to build computers.

P.S i might of gotten mixed up with the post by OP and another post by someone who said they were from ireland but i really cant be arsed to go back and fix my post.

Hey there, I personally suggest building your own PC rather than paying through the nose for an underpowered, overpriced pre-built box. However, if you DO want it built for you, I would suggest using this company Novatech I have been using them for years now and have always had good experiences. They can custom build you a system, or help you to choose the right components for you to build your own. Their prices are reasonable, delivery is prompt and after care is second to none.

AMD has a new Trinity chip just out this past week. If you want a laptop and can wait for a few manufacturers to start using this successor to the Llano processors, it might be a relatively low cost/performance offering.

Most of full (ready to go ) computers are expensive and underpowered, chose and pick every single PC components, colect them and try bultd PC alone at last while it may be problem for you, probaby some employers form any computer shop can bulid whole computer form multiple parts for small extra money, ofc is only solution.

Dont trust whole super all in one machines, some ot them got nice cpu pgu but worse cheap hard disk that ruin program start speed and vice versa.

Ive got me a Toshiba Qosmio X770, My Grandson Jimmy helped me pick it out. I tell you what that Billy knows a lot about computers and such. When I got it home it took me 10 minutes to figure out how to turn the dang thing on but now Im gettin to be a wiz at computin. I recommend it but I dont know if its in your price range. When we were out there finding a computer we also found this unique squirrel feeder. Things like that should be banned, darn squirrels are always gettin into my bird feeders.

My tips to the OP would be:

  • don´t game on a laptop
  • don´t use SLI
  • don´t buy more than 8 gig ram
  • don´t get a processor with more than 4 cores
  • don´t forget to get a SSD drive(most important!)

Revise Stirrum´s advice accordingly.

Could you outline why he should not do any of the above points? Laptop i agree with unless its a gaming laptop, (even then they not that great)

But all the other points im a bit confused about.

Eve is a bit iffy with SLI, i had problems before with it but i fixed them.

Whats wrong with more than 8gigs? I got 16 because it was 75 euro for 8 gigs or 95 euro for 16 gigs... kind of a no brainer there.

Again whats wrong with getting more than 4 cores? 4 cores is more than enough obviously. i ran a phenom II x 4 3.4ghz for 2 years with eve with no problems.

I have an 8 core now just cause i had spare money to upgrade.

SSD drive to play Eve would be a waste of money. CCP have already stated that there is hardly any performance increase playing Eve with an SSD, only marginal boost is that solar systems would load faster.

If you want to wait less than 5 seconds for your PC to boot up rather than wait the 10-15 seconds for it to boot up using a normal HD feel free to spend the extra 100 euro on an SSD by all means.

CCP Sharkbait wrote:
i did a few experiments with this a year or 2 ago but can't where i logged my findings.

as a few have stated the SSD's can help with loading times. internally we what we call a "perforce" client which is a client we run directly from our perforce server (source code repository). this doesn't run from stuff files, so we have to use the OS's filesystem more than we do with a built client.

not running on SSD's in this case adds maybe 2-3 seconds on startup or something stupid like that. on a built client, i would be surprised if the different was anything even worth timing.

my laptop has a 250GB SSD from Intel and i have a 2nd 5400 spin 500GB disk (replacing the DVD drive). i keep both eve and the source code on the 500GB disk because i dont need nor would use the speed of the SSD.
