Deja vu?

With all the bitterness and rants that I have seen (even after Hillmar's latest blog), it reminds me of a time when I use to be a complete fanatic over Microsoft's Flight Simulator series. The first time I ran into MSFS was back when MSFS for Windows 95 use to be the latest release. From that point on, I have bought every other version up until FSX.

Now, during my time flying in these simulators, I would always browse the many forums that became well known throughout the flight sim community: Avsim, Simviation, Sim Outhouse, etc. Every time Microsoft Game Studios announces the release of a new version of their FS product (which is the equivalent to Eve's major winter expansions) there have always been a lot of posts where people would show their support and look forward to the new release.

However, this is not to say that Microsoft (just like CCP Games) was without its fair share of harsh critics. For every expansion that was released, people have posted their own rants and bitterness about how the flight models have not improved, or how the latest FSX feature of flying in low-earth orbit is pathetically useless considering that there is no coding for vehicles with a proper engine for the environment. But the biggest gripe that critic had was the hardware requirements (the equivalent to Eve's unbalanced hybrids). People have criticized Microsoft for creating new releases that are so advanced that the hardware needed to experience the full graphics potential each one haven't even hit the market yet.

In fact, people have reported seeing their graphics cards and processors literally heat up like an easy-bake oven. And this is on gaming hardware. And still, the frame rate has hardly gone up higher than 30fps (where as the standard is at least 90fps).

Now, considering the above, both the fanboys and the bitter vets clashed.

Today... well, Eve is not that very different after all in terms of how we all handle ourselves with each release. The only notable difference is that Microsoft takes nearly 3-5 years to release a new version of Flight Simulator. CCP Games... twice a year nowadays. ***Keep in mind that MSFS users sometimes even consider a 3-5-year development process to be too short. - Funny, isn't it?***

My point? Nothing much other than deja vu being noticed by me.

Make me a perfect MMO, GO!

I think Eve is the best I've played, never stuck with any other game for 5 years and then went away from 3 months only to return

Flight Simulator is stupid. There are no goals in that game.

Yes. EVE has economy, skill progression and player-versus-player combat.

Flight Simulator is just a game where you have everything you can possibly have from the get go and where people do nothing but fly around doing absolutely... nothing.

Don't get me wrong, i have bought a copy of Flight Simulator 2004 when it was originally released. But one of my complaints about those games is the lack of a proper "Career mode". Of meaningfull things to do.. a proper road to travel. Allow me to start with a prop plane doing taxi jobs and let me progress in renown and get hired by bigger and bigger companies up to the point where i'm working for a big airline company flying around A-380's and carrying hundreds of people aboard.

Or better yet... let me start the game on a personal, used prop plane doing taxi missions and earning money.. then i can buy bigger planes to taxi more people.. buy bigger planes or more AI controlled planes that would work for me up to the point where i own dozens of 747's flying all over the world amassing huge amounts of money for my very own airline company.

But no.. you just grab a 787 from the get go and fly from wherever to wherever with no real goal. Take off, fly, land, ALT-F4.

I know at least 3 pilots who learned all about flight dynamics, VFR, ILS etc. using MSFS.

2 of them fly for Qantas and one flies FA18's in the RAAF.

Career mode ON...... Lol

Naw i don't want to fly the real thing. I can't crash an A380 full of people into the ground and watch as they burn on the real thing.

Not without dying myself since those damn things have no eject lever..

False statements under false premises mister.

MSFS was a single-player game with community created multiplayer capability. No monthly charges ever been done in MSFS. You paid for single software pack and the rest was community created software which also had no monthly charges. MSFS never intended as MMO and never was MMO. The content was updated by third party developers without any Microsoft help or involvment. Oh one last thing. MSFS was simulator which some of more advanced airlines used as initial flight management computer training for their flight courses before their pilots went to professional training.

Comparing these two games is a scam and idiocy at best.
You are a troll or complete idiot mister.

You're the one trying to set the troll trap, mister. So quit trolling.

I never compared MSFS to Eve in terms of pricing/subscriptions or gameplay. I was comparing the two in terms of how we handle ourselves as consumers of these two products every time there is a release. I am surprised... no wait, no I'm not surprised that you missed the entire point of my post.

So, no... no false statements under false premises, mister. Now, put away that troll trap before someone gets hurt.

And this is different from 99% of the space-shooters out there? Wing Commander -- take off, shoot enemy spacecraft, land. Watch cutscene, take off, shoot enemy spacecraft, land.

Freespace -- Dhoot enemy spacecraft. Occasionally get a new ship. AFAIK, there's no 'landing' part in this one.

X-Wing/TIE Fighter -- see Wing Commander. Add almost-on-rails obstacle courses.

Seriously, though, Microsoft Flight Sim is for aviation enthusiasts. It's not designed to be a 'shoot-things-down' game (and besides, I'd love to see someone take out a MiG in a Cessna. I suppose you could....ram them into a mountain, or something...). It's designed to be a realistic experience for people who want to fly , but don't have the money to afford a seven-hundred-thousand dollar aircraft an licensing fees.

I can't get rid of my darn signature!  Oh, wait....

Best FSX movie ever.

Too bad we can't manipulate and save camera moves like that in EVE.
