Some ideas for changes

Over the last few updates... I have been noticing a few things that are still lacking in this game. Small, practical things, mostly... things that will make playing go a lot smoother.

Unfortunately I am not one to read the forums too often because I am lazy and usually pooping. I am sure these ideas have come forth beforehand, and if I am already touching on things that have been discussed before and answered, then I apologize.

Also, every update, you guys feel you need to revamp the game. It's changing so much I can hardly keep up sometimes. I personally approve of the last patch... before Inferno... aah... can't remember cuz I am stupid. But all the small stuff that changed, like the Warp+Jump function and all those other little convenient changes. They were good and that was awesome. But, i think the bigger the changes you guys make the riskier it gets. I am a fan of the small stuff... because it adds up to the big stuff.

So, here are random things I think need to be changed:

Jumping Ships in Capitals: So, putting ships in the ship maintenance array of a capital and jumping it is insanely useful. However, it makes absolutely no sense to me that there cannot be anything in the cargohold other an ammo.... and the guns have to be unloaded. It's a real pain and I don't get why this is. Can this be changed to become more realistic? The no ammo in guns is whatever. It's not too big a deal... just odd. But the cargohold bugs me. However, I can see that people would be using haulers in the SMAs as another cargohold.... but so what? Why is that a bad thing?

Repackaging Secure Containers: So, you repackage a ship... and it gets smaller. Makes sense! The ship was disassembled to become more space efficient. Secure Containers... which are 90% space, are repackaged... into the same size they were when they aren't repackaged. Why is this? It ultimately isn't a big deal, but it just makes people frown for the most part. Why is the box the same size after you break it down? I doubt this is a coding issue, or some exploit can be derived from it. It's kind of the same thing as repackaging a hauler. Let's just make it, ya know, consistent?

On that same note... the unified inventory is annoying and causes problems. I think a lot of ppl can agree to that. It is convenient in SOME cases... but can it be possible to make it so you can choose to have the old inventory system or the new one? Kinna like the Captains quarters? Just wondering.

Linking Alliances in Text: You can link items, players, solar systems, corporations... STATIONS... but you can't link alliances. This is annoying. The only way you can do that is by going into people and places and then DRAGGING it. The drop down menu for auto-linking isn't that big and won't be made any bigger by the singular addition of "Alliance" in it.

Old Login Themes: I do enjoy some of the old log-in themes... especially Apocrypha and Trinity. And, I am sorry guys, but the logins have been going down hill since Apocrypha. The last login sounded like some kind of funeral procession, and inferno sounds like the music you'd hear while riding the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. And, ok, fine. My personal taste, and I am sure not everyone feels the same way. BUT! Can we make it so we can select what log-in theme we want, from all the other ones that have come in the past. I think that would be, like, totally cool omg. Or at least having it in the soundtrack. Speaking of...

New Songs: I do love me some of the music in this game... but it's been the same soundtrack since I started playing over 2 years ago. Yet, since the last several logins... I am scared to have CCP make new music. At least don't delete the old ones. Maybe make a contest? Have people submit songs and have a large player vote on which ones are good enough? 10 new songs? Something like that? Let's do it. On that note... maybe you guys can release a soundtrack for all songs in this game (including logins) onto iTunes?

AAAAAAAAAND that's all that comes to mind right now. Whaddaya think? Any other ideas people have? Let's get talking here.

Jumping non-ammo in maint bays was removed a bit ago because it made carriers better than JFs/Freighters for hauling stuff around in nullsec. IIRC, it used to be possible, but it hurt JF usage so much it was removed.

The rest of the stuff is mostly meh for me, I don't think that stuff is specifically bad, but I also don't care a ton about it (linking alliance names is the main thing I think would be handy).

Oh, and they've specifically stated that they won't be reverting the inventory or making the choice possible, so it's best to get over that (the new inventory does work ok, even if there are some things that are annoying at times).

Some good points brought up by the OP, especially about repackaging Secure Containers. That needs to be addressed as well as a smaller secure container not allowed to be stored in another larger secure container.


Anyway, +1 to the OP

Doesn't matter. The overall size of a small secure container can easily fit inside a large or giant secure container.

Just like in real life I can place a Lock Box inside a large Safe which I can then place inside a Vault.

some good common sense stuff here ..though the jumping with filled cargo inside ships in maintainance could end up being an exploited mechanic. This was possible once upon a time in eve.. and was nerfed.

  - remove the cloaked from local; free intel is the real problem, not  "afk" cloaking -

In real life the lock box and safe are smaller inside than they are outside. If you could nest cans in Eve, you could literally have infinite storage in a frigate. The only limitation would be how patient you wanted to be with the nested cans. That's why it can't be done.
