I don't see anything wrong in liking to destroy other people's ships. But like mentioned above, I do also think it's questionable if someone likes when this action causes real emotional pain in the victim.
But the victim also should remember this here is a game where things get blown up, and if that causes such pain it might not be the right game.

Frankly as far as psychoanalysis goes I'd be more concerned about the people who get all raged up over losing internet pixels. I mean honestly this guy has likely lost less in ships in the last several months than I have in the last week. Two of them were pet projects that were rather expensive that I was testing out (Both were successful then I died in them by getting cocky :v). Who cares?

I have also rather recently lost an expensive ship or 2. I didn't become emotionally distressed over it, I went back to Jita & bought another one.

I will never understand why people get so upset over space pixels, nor why people feel the need to defend the person that does. They clearly have emotional problems.

It is interesting that you are now diverting your attention to me in attempt to discredit me (ad hominem) instead of arguing what I wrote. You also do not reflect over the fact that a guy took pleasure in causing emotional distress to an actual person. It was'nt "die ship die", but he was well aware that there was a real person (two actually, he reflected on who they were) who was emotionally hurt (even tho its just pixels) and he enjoys the anonimity and the opportunity to hurt someone without repercussions.

If you think about it, I'd guess that eve demographics would reflect rl demographics in the percentage of sadistic gankers. Not all pvpers/gankers/pvpers are sociopaths, of course, but those that are don't see anything wrong with it, nor do they understand that other person might be upset (even briefly and laugh about it later).

It is not about how much other person was hurt or not, nor would there be any damage done, but the clue is in the lack of insight and inability to make a connection.

I don't see anything wrong with doing a lot of things in games.

I betray my friends every time I play Diplomacy or Risk.
I gouge my friends every time I play Monopoly.
I take my friends money every time I play Poker.

You do realise that this is a fictional game where people tend to roleplay a character right? Your arguments don't apply here, since this is a fictional setting.

OP and friends can justify their actions as much as they want - it doesn't change the result.

This thread is getting cyclical. I'm done psychoanalyzing for the night.

Ciao.

Wow, another suicide ganker bandwagon thread. Let me summarize it. He wants to kill the stupid newbs and make them quit the game so they learn from their mistake of playing EvE. This is getting idiotic.

What result? The imaginary theory of actions in game directly relating to a persons true nature?

A shame. I'd love to hear you psychoanalyze the miners. If gankers are sociopaths for shooting ships in a ship-shooting game, what does that make the carebears? Are they "AFK" in real life--catatonic perhaps? Lol

roleplay

That's kind of weak argument. It exists in EvE sure, but its extremely small demographic. I think most are pretty happy simply playing "internet spaceships" without some alter-ego.

Hulk Pilots aren't new to the game. Thus they are not newbies.

The Hulk hull isn't that skill intensive. these are 2 month old players.

When you play monopoly when your friends land on boardwalk, you laugh at them and belittle them and tell them if they don't like it they should quit. When you play poker you win a pot and call everyone stupid newbs for playing into your hand. By the end of the day you don't have any friends left to play with because your smack talking foolishness got in the way.

How much noob is someone with an hulk that never logged before having the required skills and the one buying a 30M+ sp char with plex?

You can't decide how much noob some guy is only because he can board "x" or "y" ship, how much "real" time did this guy played is irrelevant?

2 months is more than enough time to learn the fundamental design principles of EvE.

I specifically told them not to quit the game. I have no idea where the idea of me wanting them to quit came from.

Where did the OP do anything of the sort? He blew up somebody's ship. He did not say anything mean (or at all, CBA to check) to them until they started yelling at him.

If my friends get very upset over some in game occurrence, I would play a different game with them next time, because clearly the game we were playing was not the appropriate one for their enjoyment.

I didn't want them to quit, I wanted them to learn from their mistake. If they want to cry & rage-quit the game over it, the least they could do is give me their stuff.

All mouth and bravado online, but, alas face to face usually a different story.

Hulkageddon may be over (sort of), but it's spirit will forever live on. I found myself rather bored yesterday, waiting for a guy to log on so I could gank his so-called ungankable hulk. It didn't happen, so I decided to kill a random hulk for a giggle. I found this.

Being happy with my quick little gank, I was about to hit the sack & received a convo from the other person in the belt. If I'm to take a guess, I killed a husband & wife veld mining team... And she clearly wears the pants.

If I'm to take another guess, it appears that they're planning to sell the accounts. Mission accomplished?
