Are there macros in EVE?

As a new player I often AFK my slow mining operations. A macro which sends the Iteron home after its hull is full would be nice.
Or a macro that warps the Iteron home if attacked by rats in a 0.8 system.

Or a macro that picks up stuff in various and scattered systems, and returns home.

Would address a lot of tedium.

I'm sure more experienced players could think of dozens of possible macros.

So, do they exist and have they been discussed before (I could not find any hint of them)?

Hi Herbinator d'Arcadie

As already mentioned by other players, any kind of automated gameplay that puts you at an advantage over other players, is not allowed, as per the EVE Online EULA, section 6:

Quote:
You may not use your own or any third-party software, macros or other stored rapid keystrokes or other patterns of play that facilitate acquisition of items, currency, objects, character attributes, rank or status at an accelerated rate when compared with ordinary Game play. You may not rewrite or modify the user interface or otherwise manipulate data in any way to acquire items, currency, objects, character attributes or beneficial actions not actually acquired or achieved in the Game.

These types of tools do exist, yes, but using them will result in severe action taken against your account.

That being said, don't use an Iteron for mining, it's awful, as it's meant for hauling stuff. You should consider getting a proper mining ship, and possibly engage in jetcan mining, as it should increase your profit, quite alot.

"Macro" in the context of making decisions and commands instead of the player is called a "bot" and is against the EULA (as detailed by the nice ISD above).

"Macro" as in middle click sending a command of ctrl-click, or pushing ~ being mapped to F1, F2, F3, F4 to fire all your guns is allowed. So long as there is a person live-triggering all your actions in Eve, it doesn't matter what buttons the person pushes.

(Disclaimer: I have been known to be wrong before, but that is a short explanation of what is allowed as I understand it)

AS stated before there is no legitamte ones, theyre all bannable offences. I must ask though, what do you plan on doing in the game when you want something to do it for you?

You should also be aware that players called gankers are paid to hunt down and kill any players using macros.
A corp known as the goons are paying gankers to find and kill miners. If your ship is using a macro to mine you are a prime target for them. At the same time it is also against the game rules and can get you banned. How many reasons do you need to not do this? I know it does not matter one bit, you consider it a challenge then to get away with it. Good luck...

But the GM's already know who you are because you just told them!

Oh come on Herr, he's new and wasn't aware that bots are against the rules. Now that he's been told by everyone in this thread 10 times, and by an ISD no less, that it's against the rules and will get him killed and banned, I'm sure he won't be going anywhere near any botting tools.

Still, The attitude of a new player and already asking if he can use bots to play the game for him says enough.

I'm new to this information too. I think I met my very first mining bot.

I was looking for something on this subject because today I was in a small asteroid belt with my little mining ship, and all of sudden a Hulk popped onto the grid from a distance. Right away it spat out 5 vespa drones and it slowly chugged into the belt.

The extremely strange thing about this Hulk was that the pilot did not show on high-sec system local! I believe everyone who is online and within the system shows up on local. Does that mean its a bot? Or is there some way to avoid showing up on local? Anyway, it came up to the end of the belt, orbited around a rock I quess and lasered three rocks. It did not respond to my message. Then after a while it warped out.

Is there a place to report such unusal behaviour especially that the character does not show up in local?

I'll be happy to give the name of the strange behaving character but I don't know if it is appropriate here.

Wow, that same character showed up again now and repeated the exact same routine. Including it picked up the exact same three rocks, 2x Kernites and 1x Luminous Kernite.

The character still does not show up in local. Shocked

Seriously, is there a procedure to report suspect bot characters?

I believe CCP has hiccups with local and other chats again, I'm getting ghosts in alliance/corp chat, even a bot would appear as a regular player in local.

Hello Shik Koken

To report another player for botting, you need to first open their info window ingame. You can do this by rightclicking the player in space, choose Pilot > Show Info.

In the top left corner of this window, you will find a small menu icon, which opens a contextual menu, which has a "Report Bot" option.
Please only use this to report players who has shown behavior that appears automated, such as very mechanic behavior and very odd online times (Such as 23 hours a day, 7 days a week).

Regarding the local issues you've experienced today, there's been some issues with channel server today.
People not showing up has been a server issue, and has nothing to do with people using 3rd party tools

If you continue to experience people not showing up correctly in local channels, please create a petition

No, no. I agree. Bots bad.

I meant an in-game macro like "salvage all" or "collect items".
Setting multiple waypoints is a type of macro (sorta). So is making an autopilot 20 jump trip.

So no thought to "set continuous mining" or some such thing, or does that just **** people off who hate AFK'ers? Or it has been considered ... and rejected.

When you click on a target and then click the "open container" button, it'll now approach automatically and then open it once you're in range. Didn't used to do that, you'd have to use the approach button or jet over there manually. Autopilot's also been in the game for quite some time.

So very slowly we're getting to that point. I'm kind of hoping that at some point there will be a "loot all containers in range" button to reduce the ridiculous tedium of hoovering things up with a Noctis, but that's about as far as I imagine it'll ever get as far as sequences of ship actions achieved with a single button press.

The reason they don't want you to be able to automate most things is that Eve is a PvP game. The more things depend on player skill and knowledge, the better, whether it's being able to optimize your path to loot a site before gankers find you or staying at the console and warping to zero to make gank attempts on your freighter competitive rather than shooting fish in a barrel. They don't want this to turn into the worst final fantasy game, where everyone just loads instructions in and then goes off to get coffee.

There is already a "Loot all" button on containers/wrecks.

No, it only works for the opened container/wreck, not every wreck/container in range.

Yes, let's make the already existing bots work even more effective. Great plan
