Selfdestruct button is your friend. You should be able to regain the isk investment of your ship faster than it takes you to find a way out.

Besides, everyone likes to pod people who have gotten stuck without probes.

Question is, how much time is wasted by waiting patiently? Time he could otherwise spend by making a lot of ISK, shooting at other pilots or otherwise enjoying EVE.

Time is valuable; usually much more valuable than a ship and some implants, unless you have horribly horribly broken the rule of "don't fly what you can't afford to lose". In that case he or anyone else deserves to get violently podded and turned into hilarious killmails.

It's even worse if he spends that time online probing with an alt. The work time of even the poorest of players tends to be worth at least 5€ per hour, and often is at least in the order of tens of euros, which gives wasting time on EVE on activities you could easily avoid an even nastier pricetag than just lost ISK/h our tears harvested per hour. This is also why many people who hate PvE activities prefer to fund their PvP by selling PLEX to other players, since the time spent running boring missions or incursions would cost more in their prescious time than PLEX costs in RL money, where earning the money worth of a PLEX usually takes an order of magnitude less time than it does on the most boring activities in EVE.

just curious, is this said ship sitting at a POS? and if so how much fuel you got left in that POS?

I assume its an empty C5.....there were some activity in the last 12-18hrs? Any luck yet
