Quick question about gas harvesting: why is the Ferox considered as best ship for that job? I read this somewhere here a while ago. A Cane or a Harb would have more cargo space because of more low slots.

Only thing I could imagine: some gas clouds do damage and the Ferox can fit a passive tank? But I was gas mining in a class 3 once...no damage from the cloud.

In my experience any of those ships works just fine. I personally use a Moa for my gas mining (though a Cane would be my ship of choice, I just haven't bothered getting one). I think the reason the Ferox gets mentioned more is that the Ferox doesn't really do anything else that well, due to hybrids being generally meh.

there are 2 types of gas clouds; ones that do damage, and ones that don't. wormhole fullerene gas clouds will not pulse a damage aoe through the cloud which is why you haven't encountered it. myko/cyto-serocin clouds do pulse a damage component (as does a particular grav mining site that occurs rarely in all wormholes - the isolated deposit), these clouds are used for booster production and are found in several regions spread throughout the universe in low/null.

the ferox has 5 mid slots allowing the slotting of a shield buffer/hardener/apmplifier group on top of the standard ecm burst , as well as the 4 slots in the lows to build a larger hold.

For WH gas harvesting I just use a thorax. Cheap enough I don't care if I get popped. Handles 5 harvesters without trouble. Since none cause damage it doesn't matter so much what to use.

Ferox has a lot of CPU and a decent tank. Moa works too.

I jetcan when gas harvesting, and use an alt hauler to grab the cans, so cargo doesn't matter.

I would call the Apoc the best AFK L4 gas mining mission ship though. You can fit more than the required 4250 m3 in one trip.

Cane. Can field a 3k hold which is the volume of quite a few of the clouds. Saves on logistics. Moa for larger sites mids filled with ECCM
