Never lock another thread! Send it to "The Pit."

I agree.

Things are only impossible until they are not.

Not really. If it get's locked and sent to "The Pit"; at least these threads are conglomerated somewhere and do not require further checking.

The only way to have a thread in "The Pit" means it would have to be moved there by a GM or something.

You have to keep moderating such areas too. People always try to test the limits of what they can get away with. By relaxing the moderation rules in the pit you don't remove the need to moderate, you just change where the line of acceptable behavior is. Given enough time and no moderation you'd would get spam, adverticement, malware links, porn, child porn and every kind of misconduct any person can come up with. Things CCP as company could be held responsible if they don't moderate it. Point being no moderation isn't an option on a public forum and I'm not convinced, that a cesspool made entirely of lock worthy threads is in any way a positive thing.

Who'd post anywhere else? GD would become a wasteland.

Free Speech > Restricted Speech.

Novel idea.

Unsure about inconsitancies with rulings and behaviours however, but if it's own specific forum, could be fun for some if it's actually useful to have a forum that promotes bad forum behaviour but allows a kind of psychotherapy service to cater for a specific "need"?

As long as its doesnt simply also then promote moderation to be conveniently enforced by simply using this kind lock thread "hammer" method and pushing it into the "pit" as an habitual process. Personally I'd prefer to see the "scalpel" used more often in terms of addressing problematic "posters" not "posts"
