Been away from eve for a while. now that im back im seeing these metal scraps drop on almost every kill.. i dont recall these dropping when i used to play.

Do they have some particular purpose or just used to refine or sell for cash?

Aye, refine or sell. No other use.

Note however they are the most compact form of Tritanium in the game. If you want to haul Trit someplace you may want to save them up.

They're never as crunchy as it was promised they would be.

Only reinforced metal scraps have that compression rate.

Back in the day nobody looted them because they took up so much space. Now I guess you can refine for a little isk.

Nope. The reinforced scraps are /significantly/ more trit. I think it's around 25k per unit.

Basic scraps are 500 per unit. which is 50,000 trit per m3. Other than the reinforced scraps, the /best/ compression around.

Metal Scraps used to be a salvage item and it took up a lot more cargo space. I appreciated that CCP lowered the m3 of them but do we really need them in every wreck?

Reinforced is 2500 trit, which is still really high. And for some reason, you can trade regular scrap on the market but reinforced scrap is contract only.

They do show up a lot more often since the recent loot / drone poop change.
