Yesterday a RvB guy warped into our system and paid my friend and I a visit in our mining belt. I don't usually mine, but I was a little tipsy at the time and I felt like chatting with my Corp.

So he flips a can. We warp out and I take a look at the guy's ship, a Worm. I think to myself, "A frigate? I got this"

So I warp back to base and grab my Harby, my friend grabs his Thorax, and another is on his way in a Drake.

Five wrecks later two of us have nothing left to fight with and the Drake is slowly being picked apart so I go in with my last ship, a spare Omen to bait and at least get the Drake out.

After the Omen dies and the Drake escapes, the RvB guy finally warped out.

Although we were all very annoyed at being unable to bring down the ship, we took it as a learning experience. So I am here to share them with others who are also newer in EvE and haven't immediately been sucked into an established Corp/Alliance.

Lessons learned:
(1) Know your enemy. Our biggest mistake was not knowing the Worm. The Worm is a frigate drone boat and in the hands of a skilled pilot, it becomes a monster of a ship that can take a beating and is almost impossible to hit for a low-skilled pilot flying anything but "the best" fit.

(2) Arrive as one. We may have been able to force him away with our initial attack if all three of us warped in at the same time. Our lack of coordination allowed him to pick us off one by one and outrun our slower ships to rebuild defenses. By the time the Drake arrived, two of us had nothing else to fight with.

(3) Be prepared. Put together a defense fleet preset with PvP fitting and an understood role. In my haste to "catch the thief," not only did I rush into battle with not-so-great a counter to the Worm, but I also fitted it poorly for the task.

I hope this helps you.

I applaud your attitude sir.

Learning from ones mistakes is proper way to be good at this game.

Nice. Yeah, they are quite awesome now. My fault for underestimating it!

Sounds like you also follow bands before they go mainstream.

RvB is the best.

Sorry for you loss, but to be honest I looked at the fit you lost in.

You had lost before you even warped in.

Also losing once was not enough, you lost 3 ships to the same guy with the same ship.

Sorry that is just poor flying on your part.

Always try to KNOW your FOE before you step in it.

You have a great attitude about all this and I commend you for that, but try to get as MUCH intel on your foe before you jump in it next time.

I pity da Foe that don't know his Foe?

It's happened to the best of us, though! I remember my days starting out...lost an Abby in Nullsec to a Vagabond because I thought 'Hey, I got this!'

Yeeeah... not so much.

Yep, being tipsy and overconfident threw all reason out the window. I took my PvE ship and threw together the first few modules that I could find and went out to combat. A mistake that won't happen again.

We've already begun putting together a standing fleet of PvP ships prefitted just for the occasion.

As for all the losses, I wasn't complaining (very easy ships to replace). Just annoyed in the end we still couldn't bring him down because we were not prepared. We had never encountered a Worm before.

TBH, that Worm and its fit was probably more expensive than all your losses bar the Harbinger hull put together. That includes fits.

OP is taking this all wrong ....

You should scream bloody murder and demand nerf to the worm ... afterall 3 people should be able to kill a lowly frigate because your ships were bigger then his. In addition to that you need to tell everyone how you have allready unsubbed and will quit if this whole problem aint fixed before your sub runs out.

Confirming this is the standard operating procedure.
