I noticed this guy accepts and fails tons courier contracts, losing between 1b and 3b of collateral for each one over last few months . All from different characters in different alliances. Um... so that's interesting....

I dig deeper and look at contracts from some of the other characters he failed the contracts from. MORE OF THE SAME.

Then I notice other things. Regularly BUYING cheap BPCs for billions of isk.

1b for a prophecy bpc?

2b for a hurricane bpc?

2.5b for a maller bpc?

There are literally DOZENS of contracts like this. A shuttle BPO for 1b? sure why not! What a deal!

Is this guy legitimately doing something that is beyond my understanding? Why not just send isk directly? Is this guy running RMT operation under noses of CCP using failed courier contracts and blueprint contracts to move the isk? Is this a common method? What is a real reason anyone would do something like this? Curious to hear others thoughts.

update: I convoed one of the people that issued one of these courrier contracts, guy seemed friendly at first then immediately leaves convo when I asked about his failed contract.

I might be wrong, but I think it's something to do with what was called shrink wrapping.

The packages, once canceled, appear back in his hold still wrapped in their contact paper (for want of a better phrase). When you then pack these they become unscannable....

Like I said.... I might be wrong.

seems to me like you hit the nail right on the head mate.
seems to me like he is useing this to launder the money around with out makeing it that easy to track. as i would guess ccp watch direct money transfers easyer then multipul different ways of doing so IE selling items and contracts like that mabe woprth a petition to find out 100% :) buddy list the people and watch them drop one after the other one day :)

Good job OP, you discovered a money laundering scheme. Now report them ******* and feel good about yourself.

Well if we are understanding this right, the people that issued the contract is the buyer. They set up the courrier with some crap in it for however much they want to buy as the collateral. 1b, 3b, etc. Then this guy accepts the contract and fails it. The issuer/buyer receives the collateral and the deal is done.

reminds me of the days when i used to play wow and you'd see something like 1 piece of wool cloth on the auction house for 200,000 gold... obvious attempt to move gold around without a direct person to person transfer

Underlined and bolded the keyword in that sentence lol

I can't think of a more likely scenario.

I know how I'd launder money in game if I were ever so inclined. Let's just say it wouldn't leave a significant trail to follow.

FAIL

Accepting isk from an RMT'er looks just like buying it from them. At the very least that isk will go away, and more likely you'll get flagged as just another RMT buyer and get the royal treatment.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

this is common and I would agree with you for somethings.. like maybe a valuable BP or physical item... but a shuttle? Something is probably up there.
