Some FW questions...

I'm thinking of joining FW, probably on the Minnie side as I know their space best, so if you were in my situation....

1. What system would you choose to base out of? Ideally somewhere central to the action, but that is not going to get contested (easily), Hi-Sec or Low Sec?

2. If you could take three ships what would they be. This will be a 95% PVP venture...

3. Whats the best way of securing small gang / solo PVP as an individual / couple of people. Sites, camping?

Thanks for any genuine replies...

Base in low sec, where depends on who you wish to fly with / your TZ

For frontline
US TZ Huola
Eu TZ Arzad

If not somewhere in metro probably

Ship choice depends on what kind of pvp you like and who you fly with but I'd say the 3 ships I use the most are:

1. Stabber Fleet Issue (1600mm 'Flabber' fit). Its an incredible ship, and its other fits allow it to fill almost any role you might want form a cruiser. Its also practically free now. Dual MAR fit with exile for solo, Shield nano fit for nano games, Flabber for fleet, a few other 'experimental' fits out there as well.

2. Thrasher - For minor plexes, bring many of these, you will lose them lots.

3. Guardian - Any big gang will love you for this, it is the backbone for most big fleets, it will never get dusty. Women will be attracted to you.

There are many others that are very useful (Hurricane, Abaddon, Drake, Cynabal, Scimitar, Zealot, Hookbill, Falcon, Cyno Kessie...) but these are probably the 3 that get undocked the most. Keep a full hangar and you can fill any role that might be required.

Plexes offer easy to access pvp almost 23/7, look for contested systems and then offensive / defensive plex, it won't be long before you get a fight (for better or worse)

TL;DR Fill you hangar with replaceable stuff, find some friends to fly with, find plexes, get pew, ??? profit.

Thank you for the very helpful response Big smile

For fighting in plexes is a pimped frigate the way to go or are destroyers usually better? How do the ship restrictions work?

300 mil drams die to corms, i've seen it. Destroyers are the "most bang for your buck".

Typically dessies are the best option, pimped frigates can be used effectively in 1v1s. For larger scales you basically just want dessies (and maybe a few griffins)

Hookbills, Slicers, Dramiels and most of the other faction frigates can be fit to counter certain dessie fits quite well, however its a much more expensive loss and people are often reluctant to fight these ships (especially the hookbill).

So yes a few faction frigs are nice to have around and can give you some fun 1v1s, however the dessies will probably remain the workhorse of the minor plexes for most players, just because they are a lot more effective in terms of damage, tank and cost.

Kinda off topic but considering T1 frigs/dessies tend to be the mainstay of plexing, it should be nice to see what the re-balance does with the rest of the frigs with plexing. It will be nice to finally get some missile spamming Destroyers and a Drone one sounds pretty cool.

So as a solo player there are quite a few 1v1s available? Are they honoured?

What about catching individuals moving outside of fleets, is a target on a gate usually bait?

In my experience 1v1s are honored about 50% of the time, just be smart form a fleet with them and use a safe. If they drop fleet mid fight then try to bail. Fleeting is required tho as most people run neutral boosting alts...especially the "solo" pvpers

AC thrashers own and are quite OP atm. Suggest that for plex fighting and ganking lone frigs/dessies on gates. Typically you can wtfomgmelt them with an thrasher before backup can get you :) 400DPS from a dessie is seriously ****** upTwisted

This is a war, not a medeivil joust. You can get one agreed on, but most will kill you anyway they can.I'm not saying it doesn't happen but, put it this way. I never see it done,I think the war is a bit more vicious than you imagine..

It really varies.

Quality corps require their members to honour 1vs1s.

Some players do.

Unfortunately it's hard to know in advance.

Hang out in Tuskers Public if you're gonna frig solo. Probably a fair place to ask.

A lot of people will honor 1 v 1s... but a lot of people won't. Personally I enjoy seeing members of the Black Rebel Rifter Club, they seem to always be up for a 1 v 1 and very fun to fight.

Never trust targets on gate. EVER. If you don't know what's on the other side of the gate and in the surrounding systems... there's probably a blob.

Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?

Never said that it was, but 1v1 combat pre-dates the existence of FW and I am sure there are still people in low-sec either in/out of Faction Warfare that will hold to it.

In the 3 or so years I've been pvping in factional warfare I've had many arranged 1v1's against both wt's and pirates alike.

I have only ever had one 1v1 dishonoured, and that corporation (in the caldari militia no less) reimbursed my ship when the CEO found out.

I highly recommend that you perform all 1v1's

a) At a safespot in system
b) In fleet that has no-one but you and your opponent.

Also, plexes are a great place to have 1v1/small gang frigate fights. Even if someone is trying to bait you, there are many mechanics that slow reinforments

a) The extra warp/land on gate/activate gate time
b) There is no warping allowed inside plexes. So, if you want to be extra wary, burn off the plex warpin. Even if it's a trap, on top of a) said backup will have to burn to you via their own power, no warp.
