was looking at the image http://www.blog.playscifi.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Ore_Frigate.jpg

And i started to think, wouldn't it be interesting if this wasn't just a basic mining frigate that was boring but actually had something somewhat unique to it and started reading some of the notations on the picture

"Mineral Compressor Units" "Condensed Mineral Containers" are namely the ones that caught my eye.

Wouldn't it be interesting if this little bot that could had some form of secondary ability, of course restricted in its usefulness due to its size, inability to fit strip miners, and small cargo bays...

But wouldn't it be interesting if this little frig that could had the ability to do something cool like have a short siege cycle that would compress ore, not to rorqual sized compression blocks of course but say Small Compressed Ore blocks, and do it without fuel or minimal...

Basically as a taste of what's to come for those starting out in mining working towards eventually flying a rorqual.....

Especially if a T2 version is ever planned for cov-ops ninja mining, as i've actually seen asked for a few times and thought would be cool... warp into a nullsec system find arkonor, decloak, fill your hold, start a cycle to compress it down, move compressed ore to the condensed mineral bay, continue mining and sucking in ark ....

I just think the ships too sexy to be only a basic 5 minute used frig for mining, give it some sort of extra skill that might actually make it viable later in the mining profession.

Maybe a bonus to the warp core strength for a tech II version...

Would be nice if they had cruiser align/warp instead of capital one, Even my Orca full at max 200'ish M3 of random crap warps faster...hell even full bulkheads it does...

I think it would be cool as a sort of ninja miner for lowsec etc, although I dont really know much about mining, how much more dosh is in lowsec rocks?

or better still make its bonus include gas cloud harvesters, seems a bit odd to use cruisers for harvesting in WHs

The new ORE ships is a frig, so by default it should align and warp faster then a cruiser.

I like the stats for a tech I version of the ship. The tech II should have a bonus to the warp core strength, and a small ore compressor.

I'm really looking forward to these little ships. The current "mining frigates" are pretty useless for forays into hostile territory. I hope these things will be the ticket for some good ole ninja mining.

i like the idea of a small compressor fir the mining frig but i had a thought about it

make it a module that can be fit on any ship but give it a long cycle time while giving the cloaky mining frig the abilety to use it while cloaked

just a thought

Nothing like the ISD to come in and ruin the thread...

But a cloaky ship with the ability to use modules whilest cloaked... Seriously? Next idea your going to suggest is bombers can lay mines while cloaked and a module that prevents you from uncloaking 500m from anything...

I don't know about laying mines while cloaked, but I think it would be cool as hell to go back to being able to use mines in low/null sec. Run out there... lay down a mine field near a gate... move away and wait for the carnage to unfold.

I think your mistake was referring to the proposed new frigate as a "bot". lol

  - remove the cloaked from local; free intel is the real problem, not  "afk" cloaking -

Technically I think this could be done, but in a way that doesn't make it suck in the "overbalanced" sense.

For example, when I scan down sites using scan probes, I can do that while cloaked. However, reloading the scan probe launcher, or activating other modules is a no-go... because I'm cloaked. I have to decloak to reload the launcher and release them out again, only to recloak. Anything I want to do other than scan using already released probes, or recalling them into the cargo bay, I have to decloak to do.

I think that if they allow you to compress ore while cloaked... but only that, and nothing else, that'd be fine. No moving it from the compressor to the cargo/ore bay, no loading of more ore into it to be compressed, or anything of the sort. The key would be that the compression cycle would have to have started before cloaking. Or, if you can continue compressing while cloaked, it has to work at reduced speed, due to the needs of the cloak.

Just my perspective on it.

Ok, just compressing ore whilest cloaked I can see, but is there a point when you'll be doing it while mining lazers are active.

-Edit-
I have no idea how ore compression works, never really have a need to own a Roqual (or however it's spelled)

i'm still convinced it's just the pretentious art folk refusing to use the word "ore bay". nothing to do with compressing minerals
