Well, not exactly, but you can now pay for WoW with DIablo III items, and in a few days, gold. That's gonna hit CCP hard I think.

Why would it hit CCP hard or at all? People who play EVE generally prefer EVE. People who prefer WoW already play it.

How exactly is this supposed to work anyway? Blizzard needs to get paid RL monies at some point, so you can't trade items directly for WoW gametime, right? If you can trade them for money, why wouldn't you just stop playing WoW and do the gear grind in diablo, since it's the same thing and you'll get a salary for doing it?

Because a shitload of people left eve for d3. Now if they want to play WoW it will be the same as plexing Eve.

You sell the item for cash. You can cash out if you have paypal or just keep the money in your account.

To explain better, it works like this-

You play D3 for 100 hours to find a really good item. as in, rolls perfect stats for level 60 inferno. [Primary dmg stat + Vit + Crit damage + Attack speed + Crit chance + socket(s)] Vit is almost optional.

You then sell said item on the Real-Money auction house, for say, 20 bucks. Blizzard takes 15% of that from the initial sale, so you get 17 bucks. Right now, it goes to your BattleNet Wallet which can be used for anything in the online blizzard store as far as I know.

Alternatively you can get the money sent to a Paypal account, of which Blizzard slices off a total of 30% instead of just 15%.

The 20 bucks is of course subject to idiots paying / pricing their items, but I doubt anyone is going to make a substantial earning off of the Real Money Auction House considering the games entire loot system is balanced around having millions of drops globally. There aren't many people seeing halfway decent drops, and those who do usually get it for a class they don't have, so the Auction house it. Therein lies my problem with D3, you're finding things just to vendortrash them so you can buy what you actually want from someone else, and as someone with about 150h across two characters now I have seen very few items I actually look at and go "Hmm. I/My other [x] can actually use this" instead it's "Decent, AH it" or "****, vendor it"

This makes about as much sense as saying a shitload of people left EVE for Skyrim.

Oh, certainly - the monthly fee is what kept players from fleeing EVE. Now that you can pay in D3 items, surely, immeasurable hordes will quit to go fap to cartoony elves.

Meh. But this is going to come back to bite everyone in the ass. Blizzard paying out real money for virtual nonsense? Governments are going to have a field day with this. They were already grumbling with Second Life. Expect crappy legislation. Found an ogre slaying knife, that has a +5 against ogres? Hope you've listed that on your taxes as income. Cool

Its currently about 7 hours of playtime to farm enough gold for a month in "hell mode", which is "hella" easy. After the 15% tax. So about the same as running level 4 missions in eve.

Anyway, point is its a very comparable system.

I don't think Eve will die because of it or anything, but it will certainly draw from an already small pool.

Stupidity is a prerequisite of bad threads, but to imply stupidity is does not require an assumption.

I really doubt the $15 a month was stopping many Eve players from playing WoW.

There were probably other things involved. Y'know...like game mechanics.

most items will only sell 5$ max and the amount of time it takes to farm an item worth selling isn't worth the time played. maybe in some third world country but for the western world it's better to get a job and spend your free time elsewhere.

not only is it not worth the amount of time put into it, but could you imagine playing diablo for that long? it's boring after a day. painful to accept as a video game after a weak.

As I said its a comparable amount of time to earning an eve plex. If you can imagine someone running missions for a couple hours a day one weekend a month, then you can imagine this.

Point blank; Eve would die if they got rid of the plex system, so the third world reference confuses me. If its not worth playing a game for 7-8 hours to pay for it, why do 10's of thousands of people do it in Eve?

Uhh, no it isn't. You're comparing grinding against RNG and then hoping the RMAH gods favour you to > Hit an Isk Faucet for 3-6 hours for two days on one of the lowest faucets available > pay 400-500m for readily available and plentiful PLEX
