Orca Rebalancing

I would like to start this thread off with some explanation: I am not a miner. I like PvP, Incursions, and null game play.

I use my Orca to transport my PvP ships, ammo and anything I get from PvP. I also use my Orca for ship swapping when a careless mission runner shoots me. I use my Orca as a Warca. I don't use the Orca for its industrial purposes.

When I run incursions, the incursions are generally over 25 to 30 jumps away from each other. My Orca is used for ammo transportation and (in a very big pinch) boosting for the incursion fleet.

My Orca is my shopping cart of all my goodies so I can stay on extended operations away from trade hubs.

So, what would I like to see changed?

My only "gripe" (if you want to call it that) is the Ship Maintenance Bay. I find myself constantly hampered by the amount or size of ships I can transport. The Orca is the High Sec version of a non-combat carrier; that's how I use it.

As a learning PvP'er and seasoned Incursion runner, I would like to see the Ship Maintenance Bay capacity raised to 500,000 m3. I would like the ability to transport one battleship or a few more cruisers/frigates. I feel this would make the use of an Orca, in my profession choice, a much more interesting ship than it already is.

I realize there are a lot of mission runners and such that do not like it when pirates come and mess with their missions but it's an un-intended mechanic of the game and is found exceptionally interesting by CCP and people who don't like linear gaming. EvE is not a linear game, if you don't want it to be. There have been measures taken in recent releases to make it MUCH harder for pirates to pirate in regards to ship swapping and other mechanics related to non-linear game play.

As a budding PvP'er, the only miners I know are ones that are generally mad at me lol I would really like to hear any (constructive) feedback from them regarding an increase of Ship Maintenance Bay size to 500,000 m3 and how it would affect them.

ANy PvP'er's who feel the same? Leave your whine at home and let's have a good talk about this!

The size of the ship maintenace bay is just about perfect. There needs to be a trade off with having a BS in it, keeps people from jaming it full of gank ships and not having to return to station to reship.

What they should have done is kept the Cargo hold to a smallish 30k m^3 and had the skill increase the size of the ore container per level, as its designed to be a industrial mining support ship.

i would be happy for an orca without any bonus at all, but with twice the ship array just to carry ships around...

You should be happy that the Orca works as well as it does for this un-intended role, rather than complaining that it doesn't do as well as you wish it did. I'm fairly certain that the Orca's ship hold is pretty specifically sized so that it can't fit any BSes into it, I'm not sure why CCP would go back on that decision simply because you want to use it in an un-intended way.

ummm, first NO

second NOOOOOO

finally ABSOLUTELY NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

dude, the orca is an INDUSTRIAL COMMAND ship, thats its sole purpose. its meant for carrying mining barges and haulers and giving fleet bonii to mining . the ability to use it in other ways is just extra. will ppl stop saying its meant to be a mini noncombat carrier

its not. and never was. ppl just USE it that way.

just like ppl use spray cans and a lighter to make a small flame thrower when it wasn't designed for that purpose

I use mine for all kinds of crap too, and really don't see a reason to change it. Sure it's not quite as useful as a carrier, but then again I can't take my carrier into high sec either. I would however like to see a T2 version, preferably with jump drive.

Now, that would be interesting, indeed. Wouldn't it step on the Rorq's toes though?

I'm looking for improvements upon an unintended game mechanic. It could generate more interesting escalations of force on both sides. People would have better tools when given a choice of interaction. If you're playing EvE to play by yourself, that's not truly playing EvE. It's the Butterfly Effect that makes this sandbox so interesting.

this is exactly why it wont happen, its and UNINTENDED game mechanic.

also there is already a thread about a dedicated high sec ship mover. go find it and 1+ that one instead Blink

Ah! I was trying to find something along those lines before posting something about the Orca. I constrained my search too much, it seems.

A dedicated ship mover would be something to consider and I won't change topics over to that.

Perhaps, modifying the Orca to fit both roles? Now I'm just being too fancy Roll

IMO another dedicated ship would be better for the economy (more mins needed for a new ship) P

why shoehorn the orca any more then it already is?

Awesome, thanks!

Do you really think we need more Indy ships? If that new ship would really be called an Indy ship in the first place... I mean that as a discussion point. I can see the Indy guys really do have a lack of ships compared to those who prefer combat.

well i do both indy and combat, and if done right another indy ship is not all a bad thing, especially if you look at the other tread i posted.

it would provide a way to move ships arround AND would mean bigger ships getting destroyed through ganking, thereby making the wheels of eve turn Cool

eve is not PVP per say but it is about conflict. indy cant survive without pvpers and pvpers can't survive without indy, its what makes eve work, more combat means more industry - ships getting blown up need replacing.

TL;DR having more ships to blow up means more things for pvpers to shoot at and more that indy guys need to make
