Capacitor Warfare

I'm relitively new to Eve but I do like studying up war tactics and individual strategies.

I was wondering if there was some type of specialized ship that would be good in draining an enemy's capacitor very quickly. The strategy would be to boost whatever cap draining modules I might have to quickly leave my opponent's ship dead in the water.

This tactic would probably come at the expense of firepower. I'd like to leave as much tank as I possibly can. I would describe this as sort of a vampire tactic, sucking the enemy dry and defensless and slowly widdling them down with whatever firepower I might have.

Now I don't want people to give me a specific fit, I like to study things myself. What I would like to know is if something like this is doable in the sandbox that is Eve. For all I know this is already a well known tactic.

Thanks for reading.

This is Amarr's secondary EWAR, after tracking disruption. The Curse (Force Recon) has range and transfer bonuses; the Pilgrim (Recon) has transfer bonuses; the Sentinel (Electronic Attack Frigate) has range and transfer bonuses; and I believe the Legion (Strategic Cruiser) has a subsystem with transfer bonuses. One solo fit for the Arbitrator has a rack of small neuts for the highs, but this is mainly due to the Arby's terrible hardpoints (as you can see by comparing the Arby's neuting ability with the Vexor's potential neuting ability, while noting that Vexors tend to fit guns anyway...)

Thanks for the replies everyone,

Is this type of warfare viable in solo combat? I understand there might be certain limitations on ships that I'd be able to engage but when are there never limitations?Big smile

I've always liked alternative strategies, however unorthodox they might be. I guess picking Minmatar wasn't the best choice because of their "in your face" type personality. I'm sure I can cross train however.

I've no experience with them, but this page says that the Sentinel is a popular solo boat. I've seen people whine about the Curse's ability to fearlessly solo gangs at a time, get kills, and still get away. I know that people solo in Pilgrims.

They make sense as boats that you'd at least try to solo in: they can neut off the other guy's point, and they can easily field ECM drones in addition to a large number of combat drones.

Training for the Sentinel would take about 23 days at my current point, and even then that's pretty much bare minimum to fly the damn thing. I'm wondering if there would be any good T1 Frigates that could fill that role for the time being.

Looks like im in line for some experimentation. Perhaps purchasing a PLEX could ease a bit of the upcoming money loss.

Anyways, thanks for the replies. It's great to see what's possible in this game. From the ground up I have to say this is probably one of the best communities I've been a part of.

There aren't. If you plan to get Amarr Frigate V for the Sentinel, and already have Minmatar frigate skills, then you'll soon be able to fly the Cruor, Blood Raider frig with a neut bonus from the Amarr skill and a web bonus from the Minmatar.

If he's a troll, he's a bloody good one....

For someone starting up like you, i'd go with cheap and cheerful, it;s an excellent way to learn as well. With that in mind, i'd say the abitrator is your best bet

I hear the Bhaalgorn can be ok at Cap warfare.

Ashimmu hasn't been mentioned.

Something you should note is that some weapons (projective and missile) do not consume cap. Neither do passive buffer tanks (i.e. no active hardeners). Under this situation, you can shut their point/webs/etc... off (maybe even their DCII, but they should get the cap back to turn that back on before your next neut cycle lands), but they will still have a tank and will still be able to put out dps. And of course drones will continue to attack.

Also be aware of the recent change to cap batteries which can reflect some neuting back.
