Punkturis - UI Request

Two things I'd like to request from the UI team...

1. Add a "Save" option for the Overview
- Currently, we have a "Save as...", so if you make a tweak to your overview you need to go through a bunch of steps to write over the top of your saved one. I'd like to be able to make a tweak, and then just "Save" it.

2. 'Set Destination' in the Industry Jobs window to work the same as elsewhere
- If I 'Set destination' on something in my Assets, or Market Orders window my destination is set to the specific station that has what I need, but if I perform the same action on a completed Industry job, it only sets my destination to the target solar system... :(

I just fixed your second request. You should do me a favor and try it out on Sisi when it's been updated with my change Blink

I second Hiram's post. The ability to save and manage overviews and brackets is fairly awkward and could use some Usability/UI love time. Making them easier to share would be a nice bonus. Linkable in chat? You know you want to make them linkable in chat, Punkturis.

I would like that as well, but I doubt it is easily doable.

Unlike linking items or places in chat where you actually tell other client to display object #xy from database. When sharing your setting you actually need to transfer data from one client to another which might not be feasible.

I'm not going to do the first request but I hope we can settle on me doing 50% of what was requested in here

I'm making an assumption it's because you're doing something much more useful with the overview/brackets/tactical overlay Smile

Thanks to the horrible internet-connection at my new place, I haven't been able to fully test out the new war-dec UI yet. But here's a list I've collected of issues I've seen mentioned (some of them my own).

It makes me angry to see how all the new emergent gameplay and actual consequences for wardec agression are completely removed by Inferno 1.1, reverting the most important features to a pre-Inferno state X

Too bad Punkturis only does UI, she seems the only one that actually listens and gives feedback on the feedback, thus enlisting even more useful feedback.

Operation WRITE DOWN ALL THE THINGS!!!  Check out the list at http://bit.ly/wdatt Collecting and compiling all fixes and ideas for EVE. Looking for more editors!

Hey honest request. can you apply what you have done to the new inventory window? a button to open a new window instead of double shift clicking? In fact the more right click menus you replace with this awesome new UI element you came up with the happier I'll be : )

HINT: the solar system map, oh god please update it ;_; so hard to use it for navigation, so many right clicks. The new UI war buttons would be great : )

edit:by you i mean anybody at CCP, becuase this new anti right click menu thing is amazing.

ALSO skill training! way to much right clicking UGH GOD

... I'm not sure how to respond to this Sad but let me try:

I'm glad that CCP Punkturis 'only' does UI because she's actually quite good at it and I don't quite understand how focusing on User Interface Development is a bad thing. Don't get me wrong, specialising in being a generalist is also important but a good group of developers has a suitable mix of generalists that have a good overview of the entire product / code base and experts that know each part in detail.

Punkturis may be one of the most active devs on the forums and Twitter but there are many others that are very active as well and then there is a larger group that reads the forums on a regular (daily) basis and notes down the feedback.

Since this thread is already derailed, let me put a few points here.

What Punkturis do is the great communication with people providing feedback. For example in this thread she said directly "I will not do a) and I have already done b)" For the person posting the issue it means assurance that at least some dev read his feedback and gave it some thoughts (even when the answer is no).

On the other hand we have threads like the one from Zagdul about Unified Inventory. I don't want to speak about the unified inventory now, but about the devs posting there. Zagdul did a good job of putting all issues into the first page. The reply from devs was "we read this, keep the feedback coming" (I believe they did, but that's not the point). The point is that now the person posting the feedback is uncertain. "Did someone read my issue?" "Shall I post again and better formulate the problem?". This uncertainty leads to frustration when the issue is not addressed. Even if it might have been dismissed by devs after giving it some thoughts.

That is IMHO the reason why Punkturis is so popular. Her trolling a playerbase is just a cream on the top Smile It might not be fair to other hard working devs. I know it is not possible to reply to every single issue people post in test server feedback thread. But answering at least the most important ones gives a lot of good feeling toward CCP.

Change shift+click method to second choice (Merged inventory windows with treepanel) and change single click to main settings when someone want to open a separated window (without treepanel or closed treepanel).
Shoe is on the other foot already. This is the most important thing what need the UI. Single click is easier than shift+clickfest.

Or enable for players to create own icons to neocom which is open Corp Hangars, Ship Bays etc in separated windows as the old inventory was.

And please read this topic [Proposal]Bookmarks on overview

i dont think they meant that punktaris doing UI is bad, just that if she did everything we'd have a constant flow of development commentary on everything :S as her communications tend to be a bit heb and flow and quicker reacting than the others feel... I mean i've seen her litterally see a thread post that shes going to look at it and come back an hour later saying shes fixed it internally...

CCP needs more of that.

If we can request things of devs...

Can I request a UI dev to at least give some consideration to the thread posted in my sig? Support for it has been unanimous (except for one dude who rejected it for no apparent reason). It should be quite a simple fix, too.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)

I looked into your request and asked Tuxford if we could do some magic to make this happen, but it's not as simple as it seems, sorry Cry

Punkturis, what about showing damage in the fitting window, or pretty much anywhere without having to undock and create a contract its just nuts lol

I can understand why. If you happen to NOT group your guns, the damages could be different across all the crystals. Then when you group them, you wouldn't get the correct number. It would be nice to have the percent remaining on the crystals above the gun or even on the crystal itself when it is put into a gun.
