I suggested something like this a long time ago, and have since decided it's generally a bad idea. That said, here is the ONE possible "SP refund" idea that I think could work without being abused:

After 18-24 months of subscription, allow pilots to "unlearn" from 1-2 million SP. This would allow people to recover SP lost to noob mistakes after they've played long enough to recognize noob mistakes. It would be a one-time release per account.

This would let me get back about half of the now-useless industry skills I trained early on before I really had the game figured out. Yes it's completely self-serving, but what suggestions aren't around here.

still bad.

EVE is not about time travel to fix past mistakes.

What everyone here needs to remember is that SP accumulation is the primary method by which characters in eve progress. It may be the most crucial game mechanic in all of eve, so even a minor change of this mechanic may have massive and catastrophic consequences for the game at large, which CCP could never hope to undo, short of deleting the entire game world and starting again.

They're reluctant to screw around with SP for a reason, and it's a damn good reason.

If you really want to change it, make it a change that has no actual, tangible impact on the game itself. This is the only way to undoubtedly avoid any game mechanic apocalypse.

I'd support an item purchasable with PLEX that allowed someone to increase their skill training speed by a factor of 3600 (one hour per second), for a duration of 720 seconds - the equivelent of 30 days of skill training. However, after using this item, all SP accumulation would be prevented for the next 30 days. Essentially, it would be borrowing SP, and the 30-day limit prevents people from spontaneously creating an endgame carrier-driving monster out of thin air, regardless of how much SP the character already has.

Why not just directly buy 30 days' worth of SP, and force-pause skill training for the next 30 days? Easy - it doesn't take attributes into account.

Just to keep the newbies from whining, I'd also support this item being unavailable to characters less than 30 days old. They need to learn what skillbooks are, or else they would likely end up wasting most of their instantaneous SP acquisition.

But a straight SP remap? Absolutely not. No Rorqual pilot should ever be able to pay any amount of money to CCP and end up flying a supercarrier ten minutes later.

Eve UI wouldn't suck if CCP allowed UI addons.

I'm beginning to suspect the reason this concept rarely gets any traction is because of how often it's suggested in new and hilariously awful ways.
