Alts turn into indispensable mains over time...

Alts slowly become indispensible mains over time, does anyone else find? This is why I now have 4 accounts, instead of just 1.

My second account was mostly for hauling. Then he got good at mining. Then he specialised in science for research and industry for refining and so on, alongside scanning and covert ops. Now he's a l33t invention/exploration guy. Well, I no longer had an alt for random stuff so I bought another one. This guy had the same trajectory in terms of skills and training as the first alt. However now he's specialising in PI as the mining, hauling and scanning are maxed out. So I've got a new dudette now.

She's needed to haul stuff for the other 3 :).

Do it all in a single one and stop acting like a kid that wants everything "right now !!"

You're taking yourself a second job, nice stuff.

They never will! It used to be the case that you could unsub and your skill would continue training until it completed (before the skill queue). It was great for Carrier V, or something like that. I unsub a lot actually. I get bored after a few months and then return about six months to a year later. Hence my skill points aren't that of a single 200,000,000 char (as they should be), but more like 4 x 50m chars.

I hate the whole idea of alts, I think everyone should just be limited to one character.

Of course that would never happen, CCP would lose a lot of money..but for one it just doesnt make sence from a lore prespective....no capsuleer is seriously going to sit in a station for 90% of thier life and then haul stuff for free for someone else out of nowhere.

They do kind-of have their own identities, strange as that might sound :). Obviously they're all dicks, but you know what I mean. Anyway they don't do it for nothing, because all characters have to be funded. You know, you need 3 of everything! Or 4 once this new one gets going.

Its all a CCP conspiracy.

And damn if it doesn't work lol.

I started with one account, but the way things are (can only use and train one char at a time), after I moved to null sec, I found having to suicide pod myself back and forth from ratting system to front line was tedious. So I started a rattiing alt (actually moved a char to a new account is all) and now I have 2 accounts.

But that rattiing account gets escalations, sometimes with good loot, which I then have to turn over to someone else to move or bring my main back and move myself in a transport ship (didn't have a carrier then). That resulted in a 3rd account for hauling (in and out of empire), but the hauler became a mission runner and I made a 4th acount for hauling ect ect.

All of this got magnified when I got into cap ships with the whole cyno alt thing ect. I'm holding at 4 accounts, but its hard sometimes.

What's that sound? It sounds like CCP laughing all the way to the bank........

The only reason I have a second account is because I thought I was never getting this one back. After trying to get through preliminary skill training, I decided it was better to try to fight for this one. So the other will time expire, most likely never to be used again, I'm really more of a one account guy.

You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.

1 account for me. I do have three trained up characters on that account, though. I use the two alts to make fuel for POS's these days.

I am down to one account and mainly use one toon. I have been as high as four accounts but after the updates in and around Incarna I grew tired of crashing and having my machine fans screaming endlessly. It was also becoming a job. I'm not a max-skill at anything, but I can do just about everything short of cap ships and some of the more specialized ships. When I log in it is 'what am i going to do today?'

Funny how many replies state that they use only one account. I thought it was very common to have alt accounts. It probably is, just these people don't show up here.

Anyway, I only use only one account myself. I've always been a fan of 'one char for everything'. I used to run two alt accounts for a while, but suspended them. They were only active to make me some extra isk.

I might reactivate my oldest alt on one of those accounts, but really only if I need it for cynos or something like that. I hope I can continue to run one account only for a long time!

Seeing as how most of the posts on these forums are "hardcore" types bragging or bitching with the occassional "hi I'm new" it's really not that surprising.

I knew a guy who had 9 accounts. He was busy robbing several big name alliances at one time. Lol Kinda dangerous to keep a guy like that in corp, in retrospect.

Dunno if i will end up selling him or not now.

I started off creating a hulk pilot when I figured out it could be self-sufficient AND provide me a little extra income. Then I trained the hulk pilot to be a salvager for wormhole daytrips. Then I set up a third account and made a NEW hulk pilot and trained the first for an orca, and the second as a salvager. Eventually I ended up with the fleet that I talked about in the Nomad thread in the wormholes forum. Yeah there's a lot of overlap in their skills, but that just means that I'm more likely to have what I need when and where I need it.

Now that salvager/hulk pilot can fly an orca and is training to be a T3 booster and the orca pilot is redudant and sits unused on an account with other characters that I pull out more frequently. I really need to sell that dude, but he's got all my stuff and it's :effort: to undo it.
