PVP in W space is kinda like a low sec roam, it’s either feast or famine. Lately I felt like I was starving to death. It wasn’t from lack of trying; we were out scanning systems looking for targets, and even putting out some bait. But there just wasn’t anything biting, and the most action my lasers had seen lately was against Sleepers. So when “Core scanner probes on Dscan in the C2” was called out over Teamspeak it got me a little excited. We had a K162 into a high sec island, and I had just finished scanning a worm hole owned by a Russian corp that I found in one of the high sec systems, but there were only two members active in the system and they were both hugging the POS shields. Thinking all the action was at home I warped back to our C2.

After setting up cloaky scouts on the static high sec, static C4, and the K162 that I had just came through to get back into our C2 we only saw a Proteus on Dscan and he had gone into the C4. Sly said “Should we wait, or should we go after this guy?”. The clock was ticking, and if we waited too much longer we’d miss our chance to catch him as he jumped back into the C2. Sly and Ikzor had been active in the C2 and hadn’t seen much in the way of other pilots. Thinking that the Proteus might be a lone scout I decided to warp a Devoter to the C4 static, throw the bubble up, and either get a kill or spring a trap if they had more eyes on us than we could see. The Proteus pilot would be at a disadvantage, because if he jumped back into the C4 too soon he’d have a timer and wouldn’t be able to jump back. As our luck would have it we got him into about 1/3 armor in less than four minutes and he jumped.

As soon as my Devoter materialized in the C4 I broke cloak and activated the bubble, but couldn’t lock the Proteus pilot before he cloaked up. Ikzor and Sly tried to decloak him but it was no use –we’d lost him. We sat on the worm hole in the C4 for so long that when I heard it activate I thought it was the Proteus so I jumped after him. It was a Proteus that came through that worm hole, but it was another pilot from the same corp who had jumped from our C2 into the C4. What I saw on the other side, in our C2, made me slam the panic button “Two Gaurdians on this side guys, bail out now!”. Sly echoed my sentiments, jumped through and cloaked. Ikzor also jumped, but his Hyperion couldn’t align fast enough and his warp drive was scrammed by the pilots that followed us back to the C2. At about this same time more Probe Patrol members where logging in, but it was too late to save Ikzor’s ship.

Probe Patrol 0, Enemy 1

After things had settled down, and we had a chance to explain what had happened, the after action appraisal of our efforts was almost brutal. Sure, we made some mistakes (like not scanning the C2 for new signatures), but there really wasn’t much time to make a decision, and if you spend all your time sitting in the POS shields then your skill points are pretty much wasted. I felt sorry for Ikzor, but not about engaging that Proteus, and at that point we had more pressing matters to attend to; their where hostile pilots in our C2 and we needed some payback…

After Turbo found the K162 that the “enemy” fleet had come through 2Pac cloaked inside their C5 system, found their POS, and reported that the members of Ministry of Inappropriate Footwork were shipping up to battleships. We thought they might attempt to collapse the K162 that connected our two systems, so we got ready. As the enemy fleet warped to the worm hole we warped to it as well and jumped. Hind site being what it is I think we really caught them off guard –they didn’t expect us to jump on top of them and they quickly lost a Devoter followed by an Abaddon. A few of the enemy ships had jumped through the worm hole into our C2 and Kip was taking heavy damage, so I jumped back to assist (another ship jumped as well, but in the confusion I can’t tell you who was in it) and the worm hole shrank. A minute or so later some other ship(s) jumped through and the worm hole went critical.

You could almost smell the panic.

2Pac gave the order for everyone to jump out, and I saw the worm hole activate, but with the number of enemy ships that were fitted with cloaking devices I can’t tell you who jumped and from which side. What I can tell you is that the worm hole collapsed with most of our fleet on the wrong side. At about the same time someone called out on coms “Get out of there guys! There’s a massive fleet in the high sec K162 system!”. The enemy had scouted out our entire C2 and had brought another fleet hoping to come in a “back door” and ambush us. Everyone who was in the C2 at the site of what use to be a worm hole bailed, but I was scrammed by the battleship I had engaged. I brought up my planets tab, hoping to warp my POD out when the inevitable happened, when suddenly I found myself jammed. The battleship that had my warp drive scrammed cloaked, breaking his lock and warp scrambler. I entered warp just as two enemy Proteuses were landing on grid.

Probe Patrol 2, Enemy 0, but with five in the enemy’s C5.

At this point you’d expect the story to end with someone in the trapped C5 fleet launching probes, finding a worm hole out of the system, and either fleeing or having an epic battle while trying to escape. If anyone else was telling the story that’s probably how it would go, but there was one little problem and it’s the reason for this post’s title:

No one in the trapped fleet had a probe launcher.

After negotiating with the “enemy” they gave us a route out of W space and into high sec. I won’t tell you what it cost us; some things need to be kept confidential. But a “ransom” was paid, and honored, and we got the fleet home; although with a little less dignity than when it first jumped into battle.

Last night my corp was busy making high sec runs and preparing for a serious site running op, when one of the guys tells us there's a Cheetah and Anathema in our home hole, dropping core and combat probes. Those of us outside scrambled to get home, as we were also in the process of coordinating a collapse of our static. Cutting through the long boring part, which involves scanning down the new C4, and looking up the offending corps info, we discover that there's only one POS up and running, with a three man corp holding it. We finally get eyes on it, and we discover it's a True Sansha Medium, with nothing, absolutely nothing but a jetcan inside.

At this point, the three guys had already logged, and we decided that, instead of sites, we were going to ruin this corps day, maybe get a ransom for the POS. We set up logistics for the ammo users, and roll in two Armageddon's, a Machariel, and at any given point four or five bombers, and start the long push. We see nothing until about 27%, when the Cheetah pilot logs on again, and conversations go up, and we announce we'll take 1bil for the pos, and leave. We are then informed the tower is fully fueled. Shields at 26%. We naturally assume he's lying, because who leaves a 750mil tower up without anything to defend it? Shields hit 25%, and nothing happens. We theorize it won't reinforce until it physically hits 25%, and we continue trying to get the ransom. He offers up 400mil, 200 now, and 200 when we leave. Our FC responds, naturally, 400 now, or the pos dies. The shields drop to 24%.

We're all amused, and just a bit excited because it's a shiny tower, and the Cheetah promptly logs. As far as pos bashing goes, I guess this is where it gets good. A Tengu shows up on scan, uncloaked, and belongs to someone in an unrelated corp, and an unrelated alliance. Or so we thought. During the process of bashing the shields, we failed to notice the corp info change, and they are now part of the same alliance this Tengu belongs to. The pilot also begins chatting with one of our pilots, the exact words I'm not sure. I believe he congratulated us on finding his tower. The exact numbers get fuzzy at this point, but I believe the shields are at around 12-13% now. The Tengu pilot starts talking trash, about how a 750mil tower means nothing to him in terms of isk. The conversation fizzles out for another 45 minutes or so, until we're chewing through the armor, and he warps into the bubble. We've also failed to notice that the jetcan is gone, which led several of us to jokingly question why we're even doing this. The can, after all, was what sparked our curiosity...

The Tengu pilot begins a lame game of "poke my head out of the shields long enough to fire two volleys at a bomber," which the first two times barely even annoyed them. We manage to lock him both times, and drop him to about 20% shields, when he warps off, followed by the Cheetah. Under 50%. During this process, we send two of our bombers off to reship into fast tackle and something capable of holding him down so the battleships can get in range and take him out. A juicy Tengu killmail would also be nice, right? Ten minutes later, the Tengu lands on the "back" side of the pos, outside the shield, ten kilometers off our fast tackle bomber pilot. The Tengu has no idea what we've planned, because the battleships haven't started moving. It was at this point that the pilot targeted one of our bombers who was semi-afk, and popped his Hound. Our pilot got his pod out, and the guy started gloating about the kill, and then our bomber pounced.

Four seconds later, our Proteus pilot lands on top of him, and starts bumping him away from the shields while webbing him to hell and back. Unfortunately, the Machariel on grid was artie fit, and the Tornado was also in falloff, so before the two 'geddons aligned to come back to him, he was already dead. He congratulated us on grabbing a pinata, and then was sent on a one way ticket back to high. When we saw the killmail, we all groaned. A Pith C Medium Shield Booster was the true loss, but we did get almost 500mil in faction mods to drop, and a Tengu sub in his cargo as well.

TL;DR? We bashed a failpos, and killed a 1.5bil Tengu because he was an idiot.

Can you hear them? They are calling to us. It is beautiful. http://thegreattichim.wordpress.com/

So a funny one I remembered. Was when i was living in the c2. We just finished sites, rolled static and were scanning down out the new static when we noticed a tengu and 4 ravens on Dscan. These guys are "security" for a pos that is being onlined.

So we form up our fleet on the static, get three arazus inside and in range to tackle the whole lot of them. I called for arazus to decloak and fleet to work to the arazu that was closest to enemy fleet. (This was before corp bookmarks) We warp in, burn to target and burn them all down. Even got one of the pods seeing as how there wasnt a bubble.

Once it was all over, I noticed the pos was onlining. So for fun I called for everyone to approach the pos and start shooting it. So we did. We shoot it for a good 15 minutes. When the pos came online, we had our nice WEEEEEEEEEE moment as our ships got rocketed at about 15k/s. So we are packing up when a conversation was started with me. FC of the fleet we killed. This is what he had to say.

This is where it all went wrong for us, but not in the manner you describe :)

We had eyes on your POS the whole time and saw many new logins and reships since the first fight. A fleet was raised in kspace and they burnt the 20 or so jumps to the highsec island your K162/R943 conncted to in record time despite the intervening lowsec. A member of the fleet probed the entrance and confirmed he had it by saying on comms "Yep, and there's a member of probe patrol sitting on the highsec side, it's the right WH".

The plan was simple, those of us in the c5 would give you an eye full of juicy juicy battleships; which would very obviously align to the connecting wormhole before warping, so your tengu scout couldn't miss what they were doing. We would warp to the wormhole, which would precipitate your gang (3 guardians, abso, megathron, scorp, 2 x proteus, 1 x loki + other stuff I can't remember) warping to your side; at this point I would jump my devoter into your C2 providing a warp in for the gang entering from highsec and once they were in warp; bubble up leaving your gang no escape route.

Once your gang landed on the connector, I took a deep breath and jumped and told the fleet in highsec to jump in & warp to me.

"We can't"
"It says you're not in system!"
"Whose the warp to? I can't warp to the watchlisted person"

With those words echoing in my head I knew I was f**ked to put it bluntly Oops. The rest is as you tell it in your BR. We jumped the baddons in to mass the wormhole trying to hold as long as possible as the fleet in highsec probed the right wormhole and warped to it. As it turns out, by the time they got to the correct wormhole and jumped in, one of the two baddons and my devoter were already dead. The last baddon jumped back into your C2 in deep structure to provide them a warp in. Obviously your gang started scattering as soon as you heard of the incoming gang, so the hero baddon tried to hold your absolution as long as possible whilst aligned and using ecm drones, at under 25% structure it had to warp though and your abso was only just able to leave the grid before the first of our re-inforcement gang landed. We most definitely do not fit cloaks to our baddons.

After a successful murdering of 2 tengu's and a scimitar, we decided to return home and bask in our glory of the recent kills. When we noticed a new signature in our wormhole, hoping for it to be a grav site so we could mine for a few hours.
Only to be disappointed it was another wormhole!
We warped over and remained cloaked to see who was invading our space, we jumped a scout into the wormhole and had a poke around only to see a couple of players online. Nothing special so we decided to hang around a bit before returning home. When a tengu land on the wormhole and jump into our space and start acting as bait.
Since we had eyes on their side we knew what force they had, a couple of T1 Battle cruisers nothing scary at all.

So we jumped into an onyx, hurricane, claymore and with the scout in a proteus on their side we decided to engage and have some fun.
Onyx landed at 0 on the wormhole and bubbled up, the tengu jumped back to his side where his friends had warped over. Onyx followed and bubbled again.
At this time the claymore and cane landed and prepared to jump, the proteus decloaked on their side and scrammed the tengu. The enemy force panic leaving the Tengu behind.
For some reason the tengu jumped back to our side giving him a timer along with the onyx to where he died a horrible death costing the pilot around 2.4billion ISK.

So we decided to call some friends who we knew would be willing to have a fight with these guys.
We get our fleet assembled and are about to jump the hostile fleet when coms go nuts.
A big fleet of battleships, battlecruisers and guardians land on our wormhole, jump in and close the wormhole behind them. Leaving our fleet shocked and stunned as to what had just happened.
The Proteus and his corporation had come back for revenge and this time they brought friends with them.

They formed up with 6-7 guardians and a lot of armor t3 and began burning across the universe for the entrance system. When they made it to the system we had noticed the hostiles had bubbled our pos and are all sat inside the bubbles looking to be afk shooting the pos. Except for the gang guarding the wormhole.
The word is given that this is the right time to strike. The fleet jumps into the system and warps for the wormhole knowing how much mass is left on the wormhole (they left it fresh, wtf?).
We jump in and engage what is on the wormhole. All dps is forced upon the devoter making it escape out of the wormhole.
Our own hic throws bubble up and combined with the bubbles the hostile's left nothing is able to warp to the wormhole exit.
At this point the afk battleships start to motor out of bubbles at the pos and warp for the exit. Their guardians land 1st and are made dust within a matter of moments. As their battleships start to land on the wormhole one by one the vindicator is made primary and everyone is told to spread points. More ships land and try to burn for the exit and one by one they all go down with a few exceptions of wise pilots who warp to the staging pos or even self-destruct out of range from the fleet. They didn't even get a single pos in to reinforced....

With the wormhole now under our control as we combat scan the system looking for aggressed pilots who have logged off.

We catch a few, so we start to reship into tier 3 BC to make quick work of the staging tower which dies extremely quick (no strontium, wtf?)
The next few days are spent watching for scouts and killing stragglers that log on looking for a way home.
They did however do one thing right.
They planned an escape and executed it well, getting out the majority of the ships from the first night that logged off in safe spots as we sat there feeling stupid for letting them out.

The bad things in life are free:

I enter into a C2 WH in a cloaky and barely miss a guy taking down his POS (he warped off as I landed). He left 3 industrials called "FREE" though.

I'm chilling inside to see if he plans to take apart another of his POSes and notice a buzzard on d-scan in empty space that pops out probes and begins to scan down the HS. I grab the name when he jumps out and watch where he warps to when he jumps back inside. I quickly scan down the sig and setup close to the WH hoping for a juicy orca/hauler heading to HS.

After a few minutes pass I hear a jump and a pod appears. Ok not that odd, might be testing the waters or something...

Second jump and another pod...

I sigh to myself figuring they'll be bringing ships back and then dscan lights up with "FREE". Sure enough these 2 guys decided to grab the free T1 haulers.

One lands at the hole and jumps with me following closely behind. Pop and pod him on the other side. About 10 seconds after that the second one jumps over and loses his "FREE" hauler but is quick enough to warp off his pod.

So they tried to pickup about 2 million ISK of free haulers and lost around 100 million ISK in implants.
