Anything can be tanked, but you can make enough of a deterrent to fight off all but the most determined ganker.

The goal of tanking a ship is to make it impractical for a ganker or group of gankers to gank you. Your job is to make it so a ganker has to invest more money than he stands to gain by attacking you. This creates a deterrent.

A tank will fight off the solo Catalyst, and maybe even two. Beyond that, there's no point financially speaking to attempt a gank.

How it is impractical? If they want to gank you there's nothing you can do about it.

1+ mil EHP Damnation/Proteus can be alpha'd in few seconds. What you think Hulk pilot can do to avoid getting ganked?

You're obviously trolling, but I'm gonna continue going on anyway.

Yes, with enough firepower, anything can be ganked. But is ganking a Hulk with a handful of Catalysts or a couple of Tornadoes really worth it? The gankers in that situation stand to lose much more than they would gain.

Of course, there are the few who would gank anyway, since they like to do it. But your average ganker is in it because they enjoy it, it is easy, and they stand to make some money. Take away the second and third incentives, and you'll find that most gankers will avoid attacking your ships.

As a miner myself I must say that the gank-fest has reinvigorated the game for me...

I got ganked, several times, AFKing in Hulks...

So I went away...
looked at Dot-Lan... found a nice dead end system with few ship kills...
PYFA'd up a Hulk with 20K EHP to use when things are quiet...
bought a few Covetors to use for max yield during busy times in local...
Actively fly my ship during mining activities... keeping an eye on local/dscan... Staying aligned and moving as much as possible...
Explored some grav sites for mining...


Its not as fun as PVP which I'm now intent on doing as I'll be moving to Lowsec soon...
But its a lot better than the mindless AFK crap I was doing...


Getting blown up is not being griefed... Its a gentle reminder that your doing something wrong...

There is no such thing as a fair fight...

If your fighting fair you have automatically put yourself at a disadvantage.
