The only thing the avatar creator needs (apart from more "old school" differences between the races) is being able to make a duck face, that truly would show CCP is modern and with the times.

Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

I can't wait for this whole special snowflake sexuality fad to pass. It's an evolutionary dead end and the sooner it goes out of style the better.

pretty sure hate towards transexuals is still considered just as bad has hate speech towards kin color or sexual preference.

I don't understand your complaint. I think you did a fantstic job of rendering a transgender woman. Bravo to you maam.

Look, if you want to go under the knife to have your genitals rearranged, that's fine by me. It's your money and your body. But if I were to clone you, I'd get a baby with your original gender. If you died and they found your skeleton a year later, all evidence of your sex change would be gone and your bones would indicate your "true" gender. Genetically and biologically you will ALWAYS be what your genes originally determined you to be. Forgive me if I don't make a special effort to make the distinction.

Gender Identity is not a function of physical form. One's true gender is not restricted by the body you are born in, this applies not only to the human race but to a vast number of other mammalian species. Claiming to be ok with how people live their lives, while simultaneously insisting that it is a "choice" to be born in the wrong body is immature and ignorant and shows a lack of conviction in your "true" beliefs.

It is frankly amazing that in this, the year of our lord 2012, there are only 2 gender choices in EVE online. It would be ideal if there were separate sliding scales for both sex and gender, but given the horrific state of intolerance this game's character creator currently wallows in, I would settle for 2 sex choices and a sliding scale for gender. It would also be nice if NPC's would ask you which gendered pronouns you would like used (when you receive missions and such), or least refer to you as he/she/zhe/zhir/hir/hyr/etc depending on the position you chose on the gender scale.

Thoughts?

How exactly do you get your gender wrong?

It's determined by your genetics.

How exactly do you get your gender wrong?

It's determined by your genetics.

Wrong on all counts; gender is totally separate from sex. A person has a gender, sex, and possibly a soul-bond (such as with a fallen angel, or a Anime. This is a separate topic though, so I won't get into it here).

I disagree. Gender is a trait allocated to you at conception.

Ok, I shall attempt to explain. The person I quoted is basically saying that your "true" gender is defined entirely by the body you are born in. As he says

I merely pointed out that by his definition, one's true gender is determined entirely by the physical attributes of your body, which is incorrect. A persons gender identity is NOT determined by such a narrow set of rules. Hope that makes it a little clearer.

The gender of the parakeet sitting on my desk is determined essentially the same way as yours.

The fact that you have such a poor understanding of the way in which gender identity is determined does not really surprise me, given the lack of intelligence you generally apply to your posts on these forums. This is made even clearer by your assertion that you understand how your Parakeet thinks, and that you are equating a Parakeet to a Human being.

Then you're not disagreeing — you're using the wrong word, because that's not what gender is.

Gender is a social construct that distinguishes between “feminine” and ”masculine” (and “queer” in all its incarnations). It is not allocated at you (although society will try its hardest to make it match your sex). It is not determined by genetics (that is sex — the distinction between “female” and “male”).

You mean by observing its behaviour in a social context? How does an effeminate parakeet behave, by the way?

It is painfully clear that some people's intelligence is equal to that of a parakeet; he's not wrong.

He's only right by accident, not by understanding. He just happened to choose a very poor example that accidentally holds true for both gender and sex.

That doesn't change the fact that he's wrong about what gender is or how you determine it.
