as the title says which headset/mic do you use while gaming on your pc/laptop?

the reason for the question, i also game on the ps3 and i use tritton ax pro's (1.5 version) for sound whoring they do a good job and deliver what i want.
since finding eve and a decent corp i have now found the need to have decent communcation's for op's etc. i don't bother with voice on the ps3. now using the ax pro's just recently has caused me no end of bother, the corp use's ts3 which i know my way around.
some of my probelms were no voice, then no sound or ts3 voice sound but no game sound, quite frustrating but i think i have it sorted now............time will only tell. The headset connects to my laptop by a usb plug and also the standard pink/green 3.5mm jacks, the usb plug must be connected or the headset will NOT function.

so my dilema is do i carry on using the ax pro's for eve and possibly suffer more issues down the road or do i purchase a dedicated pc headset ie razer, logitech, or another.

all feed back welcome, my laptop i play eve on is an alienware m17x r3 i am in the uk and would like to keep the cost below £50

thanks all

With less 50 bucks/pounds/euros you can have a very decent Logitech headset with excellent quality and durability.

Take a look around here for GB

So OP owns an overpriced Alienware laptop but won't pay more than £50 for a headset.

I see.

On topic, I use the Steelseries Siberia v2, and it's fantastic. Costs between £48-60 depending on where you buy it from.

Yes, its $150. But I have probably spent more than that over the years buying/breaking/replacing cheap $20 headsets. I went thought 3 or 4 in a year once.

These Logitechs have been dropped and beaten on plenty and are very durable. Great sound! You can hear things around you through your MIC, but it doesnt transfer to your voice recorder. What this does is allow you to have your headset on and still be able to talk to someone in the room. It takes a bit of getting used to but it's great once you do. It also keeps you from yelling into MIC from not knowing how loud your voice is in the headset

FC, what do?

Back in the dark ages when I used a PC I used barracuda 5.1 by Razer, that thing was nice.

Now to high jack your thread

Been using a Mac for the last few years, and haven't found a decent headset. If you don't use one you don't know the issues.

Right now a using headphones and the built in mic. Forget which kind, but they are the $100 over the ear variety. I've tried my Razers and Logitechs in various price range. At best I've been told I sound like a 12yo girl whispering.

Do not assume anything above this line was typed by me. Nerf the Truth, it's inconvenient.

I spared no expense. I connected my wired Xbox 360 controller via USB to the PC, and I use the headset that came with it.

The set I bought doesn't, but I'm pretty sure there is a USB connection version on the market.

I have a $20 logitech headset that works prefectly. The mic is removable so that I can take it out when I'm not chatting. The earpieces are padded bery nicely to be compfortable when I'm wearing them for long periods of time, and they work every time I plug them in.

I don't understand you people spending ridiculous amounts of money on a headset. I wonder how many of you actually understand the specs listed for the speakers, and actually know that that $70+ dollar headset you purchased is no better then the $20 ones sitting right next to it.

Here's a clue. Normally, costing more doesn't mean better, it only means costing more.

I'm assuming the USB is required to actually power the headset? Dumbest **** I've ever seen, seriously.
Could it be possible that it's a power issue with the headset?

i agree with you about the trittons needing the usb to power them, and yes you may welll be right. i never even considered that possibility.

I'm only guessing, but it sounds like your onboard soundcard is having trouble delivering all the chanells it's supposed to. I'm just wondering if it's possible that the headset is interfering with the power requirements of the soundcard in some way.

I'm guessing you want the USB for things like controlling what chanells come through the headset itself? So you can get just voice and leave game sound in external speakers or something, or to be able to have it mute the gamesound when someone speaks?

I used to have some bulky & expensive Creative gaming headset but its microphone broke after a few months and I found it a nuisance in general (too bulky, absolute crap for listening to music despite being explicitly advertised otherwise - sound was very bass heavy and generally blurry).

Replaced it with a Sennheiser PC 31 for less than half the price and haven't looked back.
