Mac Client Works Perfectly! Client fails horribly after dual boxing attempt

The Good
So anyway I was playing on my PC earlier and was able to dual box just fine while having only one instance of the launcher up and running. This launcher actually never went away after I selected the Play button (maybe because I was holding ctrl+click which force opened another client window? if this doesnt work for dual boxers, ill give some of my input as to what i did to make it work) so I just clicked it again and lo and behold, the second EVE window popped up perfectly fine and all was well.

The Bad
Afterwards, when I got back to my Mac and spent hours upon hours trying to fix the fail launcher problems which everyone happens to have, I was finally able to get my first client running after opening the launcher. However this launcher window shut after I selected play so after I logged into my first account and what not and started to mill about and check out the shitstorm raised by CCP to macs after this Inferno release, I was thinking, hey lets try like the previous expansion where I would have to re-open another instance of the launcher then open a new client window off the second launcher. Bad - Ducking - Idea. So after I opened this launcher for the second time, it started to do a launcher update on its own, after it was working properly as I just had another instance of the client open. So I immediately attempt to halt this launcher update and try to find out wtf went wrong. I go into my EVE folder and find that my EVE.app the heart of the game which consists of 11gb of pure awesomeness has the notice when i try to open it "You can't open the application EVE Online because it may be damaged or incomplete." and the icon also comes with the dreaded fail icon mark on top of the EVE online Icon.

The Ugly
Now I try and let this lowsy launcher update again from scratch but this "updating launcher" comes in a totally new and no gui window and looks like crap. Anyway after wasting another hour of my time waiting for this launcher to update it fails and pops up this slew of failure. Failure can be found here --> http://pastebin.com/RPE6KNrw

Dirty Harry Gives No *****
I have been playing EVE on both my Macs and PC's and there has always been a discrepancy in the support that Mac users and PC users receive. It is understandable and acceptable because Macs were not made to be as heavily dedicated to gaming as certain PC models. However, I believe that releasing an expansion which has undergone menial Mac testing at best through the Singularity test servers and then putting the hurt onto the entire Mac community with the full release of the Inferno expansion on TQ is uncalled for. If CCP strives to keep itself more accountable to its players, it should be held accountable to both Mac and Pc players alike, not just the majority. Sure you will get majority votes for support and assistance because I assume most players play from a PC but those of us who play on Macs will most certainly give no ***** and their ratings would probably reflect the service they receive.

The Mac community on TQ is not an open-beta testing arena and I believe that most of us believe that our woes should be treated as equal to those of PC players. We need to have a system in place where Mac are supported as well as the rest of the EVE community.

Walt Kowalski's Redemption
EVE is a great game and the playability on Macs has always been available, albiet at a lower quality and possibly with less attention from developers, but who am I to assume these things anyway? However, this latest expansion, although free as always (everyone loves free stuff! +1), looks to be an absolute kick in the nuts to Mac users. Hopefully next time an expansion comes out, full testing is carried out. We can all learn from this. Firstly we as Mac users should have a standby PC just in case we get failed again. Secondly, CCP should test things thoroughly before releasing them to the public. I sense that some SP giveaways are in order ^_^

Seconded.

I normally follow the instructions here, but the problem is that the Launcher detects that you've changed something about info.plist and decides to change it back to point at the original "EVE Online" Application Support folder, which is absolutely the wrong thing for it to do if multiple clients are desired.

Normally, this is resolved by saving info.plist with your changes, then bypassing the Launcher and manually launching the EVE Online that's inside your EVE Online. However, the Inferno patch somehow causes the game client itself (the "EVE Online that's inside your EVE Online") to be flagged as corrupted by the Finder such that Finder won't launch it directly. You have to go through the EVE Onlune Launcher, which as mentioned above, reverts any changes you make to info.plist.

I managed to work around this problem yesterday by deleting my EVE Online clients completely and downloading the whole thing from scratch. It looks like I'm going to have to do that again, today, and again for every single patch CCP puts out.

The Launcher has made my gameplay experience worse ever since it was introduced. Satisfactory results, for me, have only come from bypassing the Launcher whenever possible. If we have to put up with the Launcher, then the Launcher must stop reverting changes to info.plist.

If you were using the clonemaker to make your multibox Mac clients, then restore the cloned copies to the pre-Inferno version (you are backing them up with Time Machine, right?)

They will still work.

Then the setup is that you run your main copy via the launcher, using the default preferences location, but you can still run the cloned clients that point to other preferences locations.

Kludgy, I know, and it does need to be fixed, but there is a work-around.

Another workaround, which is also kludgy, is to let the launcher re-patch and thus overwrite the info.plist file. Then while the launcher is still open but before you click the play button, go open the package and re-edit your info.plist file. Then click play and the launcher will ignore the finder's protestation that the embedded app is corrupted. This means you have to edit the info.plist every time you run the client alas.

Thank you for the workarounds. I wasn't using the Clonemaker prior to Inferno, so that's not an option, unfortunately. The current Clonemaker doesn't work.

Issac Hotel's method, however, seems to be working. Thank you again.

Here's a better option.. just remember to switch it back on patch day.

1. Edit you info.plist file and save.
2. In finder right click the info.plist file icon and call up the info.
3. Tick the 'Locked' button.

When you start the lancher it will fail to update and complain but will open a smaller dialog box with a 'Start Eve' button. Use the button and close the launcher window that was left behind.

I've been doing this for a few weeks now. Would have posted earlier but i wasn't sure how it would survive the update processes. In fact I even have it locked when i update the multiple clients and it survives :)

I notice that this problem has been fixed. Thank you, CCP! Big smile
