Great step for the future of the eve community, and I appreciate you making a personal post on the state of eve along with its short falls.

Personally I haven't seen anything worth while since WHs were added to the game, new ships great, mods great, PVP is the name of this game, let's see what comes next...my fingers are crossed.

Good luck CCP

P.S. Don't forget our industrial boys sitting in our home systems manufacturing ships for us to Pew Pew in, they are just as important :)

Thank you for the appology CCP Hellmar.

I really love Eve Online its unique in many ways, and would love to see that future vision within the game that you linked in your letter. But things like that take time and there is no sense in rushing.

There is no other MMO that I know of that allows you to change the shape of the world maps by owning location (systems) , PvP and death in Eve actually mean something unlike other MMO's where you respawn and feel nothing other than a 5 minuet walk back to where you was. Because of this I am more conected to my characters in Eve than any other MMO I have played.

There is only one MMO that gives me the shakes in pvp and that Eve Online, no other rush like it.

Very few companies can manage to recover from the state that CCP was in until today - usually because the company leadership is incapable of seeing the need for change.

Thankyou Hillmar for seeing the need and beginning the changes required.

"From a strategic perspective, we had to take these first steps because monthly subscriptions are increasingly becoming a thing of the past."

WHY THE HELL does every executive in every game company think this.

NOWHERE do PLAYERS say they want micro transactions.

WHERE do PEOPLE who already pay for your game TELL YOU they WANT THIS????

Monthly subscription fees BUILT CCP. BUILT EVE ONLINE.

MY GOD. The greed that is slapping us in the face, beating us with sticks, stealing our wallets is called Micro transactions.

**** OFF with MICRO-TRANSACTIONS.

Just because half the Japanese/Chinese/Korean games do this does NOT mean it's a good model. This is the model for games that are on their dead beds. Games that have no development team left. Games that are DIEING!

MMO's started out with a monthly fee. They should STAY with a monthly fee.

This allows you to focus development dollars on CONTENT, and not millions of useless shiny bobbles for vain basement dwellers to pimp out their char's, that NO ONE SEE'S.
Micro transactions = GREEDY BUSINESSMEN

As for WIS it self, you guys are going about this backwards.

Start with STATION interiors. NOT captains quarters. THEN go to shops. THEN go to Bars. THEN go to ship customization. THEN go to barbie in space.

You guys want me to pimp my ride, before I have a drivers license, before I have a job. Before I have roads to drive on. Before I have insurance. Before I can buy gas. Before I even have the damned car.

FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS

FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS MIcrotransactions are for DEAD MMO's. NOT for successfull ones. I already pay for 5 accounts. I WILL NOT PAY FOR ANYTHING ELSE!!!

I think this statement is weak. badly chosen words and looks like now CSM got what they wanted. specialy that goon fecker.
Everyone can make mistakes true, But as an CEO you choose the direction what you think is best ( profit wise ) and when you feck up, you make sure it doesnt happen again.

At the start of 2003 you listen carefully of what the community had to say. As there a couple of people very smart who can help you overcome most obstacles. Bring that back.

And when you are about to release something.. then step away from it and think by your self how would the community react on that. What will they see?

Cause as you should know by now where a harsh fecking community.. loyal but dont feck with them.

While encouraging, words are only words. And Hilmar's words carry less weight with the playerbase in than most after some of what's gone on.

Deeds, not words, Hilmar. Show me, don't tell me.

Thank you Hilmar, personally I have a lot of respect for you right now, if that means anything.

This explanation and honest apology, shows many I think, your commitment to the EVE community of how things are going to improve in and for CCP. But as you said actions will speak louder than words ever will the following months for the upcoming expansion.

Many people when reaching up high on the tide forget where they left from, is a very common mistake, very few realize this mistake and work on fixing it. Mr Hilmar Veigar Pétursson I sincerely congratulate you for your personal revelation and I am confident things will change for the better with EVE, it would be a shame to let decay something so wonderful and with so much potential as the EVE universe is.

Best of luck, and always remember where you started from.

The tradition of begging the community for forgiveness runs strong in CCP. That is good.

When can we expect results?

I'm not talking about ship spinning or AUR. I am talking about actual game play, especially High sec and now low sec. I am talking about the failed PvP action that single mindedly focuses on fleet battle.

But instead I did shed a small tear.

I shall attend a small vigil in the Hilmar system as a sign of respect for this awesome post.

Good to see some reflection and move back to the central theme of the game. Hopefully we will see more interaction with the community to gather development directions and options.
As they say actions speak louder than words ... so I await your actions

i hear when you jump into local you only apear after 30 sec , welcom to the killfest of ratters

i hear 0.0 space gonna get the same overview like wh space wel good luck perma cloackers

i hear the capitals ships gonna get a buff especialy the dreads so they can kill supercaps and they tracking improve , more i win attractive ships

o boy i love this game right (sarcastic)
o boy i love ccp right (sarcastic)

Most of us would find it difficult to apologise to our significant other/loved one/person who cares. Hilmar has just eaten humble pie in front of an anonymous crowd. That alone says great things and I look forward to awesome unleashed.

A small point to consider in the new found direction. EVE is not like any other MMO. People find EVE after being unhappy in various other MMOs, they try new shiny ones and come back to EVE, because the new MMO doesn't fit. When multi-MMO'ing, it is the other MMO that eventually gets the boot, not EVE. The EVE community are the people who are not catered for in other MMOs. As such, the metrics gathered in other MMOs cannot be translated into EVE just like that. I suspect that some metrics are completely irrelevant to EVE and some EVE metrics would be equally irrelevant in other MMOs. I concede that this is my impression and that I have no hard data to back that up.

That might sound elitist, but, well, this is EVE.

I accept the sincere looking apology,

When the new features/content arrive this winter, I will determine if I can have fun again in EVE. Till then I will be engaged elsewhere for sure, doing nothing but skill training. Hopefully old friends will still be there when I come back and not also entangles in a EVE midlife crisis.

Make no mistake, the improvements must be engaging enough to drag players like me a few patches along to the next entertainment level to kick in. I have been grinding for wealth for so long now, that I truly need something else I can enjoy. Just adding more wealth in anticipation just doesn't cut it anymore for me.

Hope to see you soon in an Improved EVE on my PC :)

I am serious!

Hilmar's speach puts me at rest. No longer do I have the fear CCP is charging full steam ahead regardless of what the player base says. Thanks Hilmar, it's good to see that CCP can work with the players and come up with a lasting MMO.
As a side note.
While the graphics is wonderful, much time and effort has been but into it. Is there now a time to look over the game play?
Game play is more often than not more important than graphics? yes? So long as the graphics are ok, but with EVE the graphics are already awesome.

Thank you Hilmar.

You just earnt yourself my two subscriptions for the forseeable future.

Its this direction and working with your player community that is going to make Eve stronger and greater!

Maybe I read a different blog?

I got the stuff about being too arrogant to listen etc and acknowledging the fact that mistakes have been made is always a good step.

Then I get to to the other bits;

Yes we did some stuff that we said was great but it's pretty poor because it's unfinished and kind of pointless without the rest of it.

But it was really good stuff

pointless and useless but REALLY great, industry leading, stuff.

then we move onto the Gold Ammo debate

"let me be blunt" it starts and then he caveats his words with a comment about, unless mmo's change radically.

A paragraph later he is saying MMO's are changing radically and monthly subscription is going. (Damn and I just renewed for 6 months)

So maybe this is an English translation thing and that I am taking note of stuff he doesn't know he's saying, but I doubt it.

so

No Pay to Win unless stuff changes a lot

Stuff is Changing a lot

So I start to wonder if this is how the CSM were lubed up over the debate. Lots of concilliatory noises, a few caveats dropped in, then all are happy. Except one set of folk know exactly what they are doing and are being deliberately misleading to avoid a confrontation on the issue.

So from a humble players point of view Helmar should have left those paragraphs out. If he wanted to deal with that he should have dealt with the whole fiasco of the "emergency summit", he didn't. If he wanted to make a clear statement he should avoid caveats and positioning , he didn't.

I read the first few paragraphs and thought, "He gets's it, he really does" then I read the rest and thought "he may get it but he has no intention of changing a thing"

I'm old enough to vote, one thing that really winds me up is spin.

However well intentioned this may have been it has the flavor of spin about it to me
