what is ISK?

I was reading some other threads and I got to thinking...what is "isk"? Yes, I know its money, but what I was wondering is its meaning? Is it an abreviation? A foreign word/term? Maybe something icelandic (think that's where CCP is from right?), basically, who sat down and thought "how about we just call the currency ISK".

I am not a pirate, I work in private acquisition and redistribution dealing in personal assets

CCP are in Iceland, The Icelandic Krona is the currency there, and its abbreviated code is ISK
