Currently I am playing around with some fittings for my Thorax but I dont understand one thing. Basically my character will do a total of 94.7 Weapon DPS. When I change my character to lvl 5 maxed in Python Fitting Assistant, the damage is 168 Weapon DPS. Now I have tried a lot of different skills and made them higher in a copied profile but my overal DPS didn't really went up that high. What in the world are the most important skills for your Weapon DPS when using 200mm Railgun I?

Hybrid Turret?

Also surgical strike and a few others in the Gunnery skills. Rapid fire would also help

Also fit damage mods in the low slots

Lets see, theres:

Gunnery. Increases your ROF
Medium Hybrid Turret. 5% bonus to damage per level
Rapid Firing. Increases your ROF
Surgical Strike. 3% bonus to damage per level.
Gallente Cruiser. 5% bonus to damage per level.

Bear in mind, these aren't additive bonuses. They multiply off each other.

So, you've got 25% coming from Cruiser. 25% coming from medium hybrids. 15% coming from surgical strike.

That comes to a 79% bonus to damage. Or so. (first two are a 56% bonus.)

Then the ROF bonuses kick in, and you do the damage more frequently, increasing your DPS.

Thanks! This is really helpful, now I know what to aim for! :)

Oh, and as an aside, if you right click on the module, then module stats it, there's an 'affected by' tab. Which will show you everything that can affect the module, so you can add it all up.

Actually pyfa, as the OP mentions it. But yes, I should have specified. Eve doesn't make it that simple Big smile

Figured it out, thanks a lot! Is EFT better?

EFT is older, so more people know it than pyfa.

They do the same job, and update (with expansions) at pretty much the same speed.

Use the one you're comfortable with.

When you reach level V in a weapon system, in this case Medium Hybrid Turret, you can then train the Medium Blaster and Medium Railgun specialisation skills. These add another 2% per level. Level V is a bit of a train, but it only takes a couple of days to get to level IV and an 8% improvement and once you have level I trained you can fit T2 weapons which are generally better and often cheaper than best named T1 modules. Once you fit T2 guns you can then use T2 ammunition which is better in specific circumstances, in others use Faction ammunition.

To clarify the quoted bit: T2 weapons are typically almost identical to meta 4 weapons in the same category in terms of stats (they generally cost more in terms of fitting, i.e. powergrid/CPU). However, the advanced weapons specializations, which only apply to T2 guns, add another 2% damage per skill level, and there are higher-damage (or lower damage/higher range) ammo types that can only be used with T2 weapons... so once you have full fitting skills, the weapon specs trained, and the money to use the T2 ammo types, T2 weapons do end up being a better deal.

For now I would focus on making your T1 guns better, though (core weapon skill to V, fitting skills high enough to fit a full rack of good guns, skills for range and tracking so your DPS is easier to apply, etc).
