CCP Hellmar, to show my appreciation to your letter, I have personally translated it and posted to another language-specific fansite. I was starting to get worried that CCP was running out of ideas on how to expand and iterate on EVE, but reading through the last four paragraphs and putting them into another language, I could really see the passion you have about the potential of EVE, to the point that you were getting agitated about not being able to show what you are seeing from it.

Thanks for restoring my hope for the unique world that is EVE.

Thank you CCP and Hilmar for having given us such an amazing game over the years. Yes there have been downs, but mostly ups, else we all wouldn't still be here.

You ladies and gentlemen are fantastic.

Very nice words indeed, if CCP's actions live upto what was said in the blog then the future is indeed bright for Eve and I forsee Eve clawing back a good percentage of the people who've left, though I doubt they'll all come back.

I would like to officially tip my hat off.

Few people and in business leadership have what it takes to step forward and say, Yeah I own this one, my fault, but I'm going to change it up here and get back on track. In the world of backstabbing, selling people down the river.

Really a breath of fresh air.

Since day 1 of Incarna I had the quote " INCARNA... the day CCP stopped being Innovative" posted in my public channel MOTD and I had since stopped playing.

CCP, Thanks for admitting it - you messed a few things up - big time. Now that you've got my attention, let's hope you can capitalize.

Good luck in regaining the trust of thousands of disappointed players.

Hilmar,

It's not every day that you see a CEO of a global multi-million dollar entertainment corporation commit "virtual seppuku" before his customers. Quite unprecedented.

If my last boss had taken one tenth of the responsibility for his actions and oversights that you did here, I'd quite likely have not quit. If I had quit anyways, it would have involved a lot less swearing and lawyers to say the least.

I have to say that no game, MMO or otherwise has grabbed hold of me quite like EVE. A good bit of that is quite likely due to the people I play it with but, that being said, there is nothing quite like EVE anywhere else. I'm glad that not only have you taken responsibility for your actions as the head of CCP, but looked for the future.

I hope that seven years from now I can tell noobs "Yeah, I remember back years ago when they rolled out WiS. . what was that, the Incarna expansion? . . . man, what a s**t-storm that was. . . let me tell you about how I got my monocle."

I seriously hope you can continue to earn my business. As so many others have said, "time will tell." With deeds to match these words, you will. Use your time wisely.

Excuse my ingles, its bad at best.

The Good::
- Some kind of apologies, still arrogant but showing some concern
- Promise not to hit the "pay to win" key
- "CQ was essentially a prototype feature that we foolishly promoted as a full-blown expansion" ... finally you wrote it
- "Good things are coming. They always do when you learn from your mistakes" .... vague promises Roll

The bad:
- "they delivered some of the most amazing interior rendering and character technology in the industry" ..... what?? you must be joking ....
- "we had to take these first steps because monthly subscriptions are increasingly becoming a thing of the past" ... maybe. And maybe the real thing is that many subscribers cancelled or switched to PLEX or RMT because you guys ****ing over and over. I am sure that if all the expansions had the quality and focus of Apocrypha the numbers would be very different.
- "most people need to see their avatars, or something vaguely humanoid, or else they don’t connect with the game" ...... most people, or most EVE players?? There is a difference. Have you asked us? I missed that poll

The ugly:
- DEVs writing obsequious posts. In this Hilmar post. Was an "order", a "suggestion" or what? Maybe in Iceland this is not a servile attitude. In the place I grew up, this kind of things talk very bad about the leadership of an organization.
- Players too happy with Hilmar`s "letter". C´mon guys, you went all across from Jita´s piquetes (blockades, monument shooting) to "WOW". Its grotesque. Better wait next expansion to see if words translates really into concrete actions.

Apologizing is a great thing for people to do and it does take courage, especially when you are in a position of power, but behind this apology is nothing but excuses. I see no true direction for the future mentioned in this post, only excuses for why his decisions in the past were justified despite their failures. Empty promises of things to come are not a solution, and excuses do not make a genuine apology. Unless significant information is forthcoming about CCP's actual plans for the future, and the rectification of their mistakes, I'll keep plexing my accounts till I run out of cash in the off chance that I'll want to come back to skilled up characters at some point, but I don't see much hope for fixes as it stands.

Well well....what to say.

I can't ignore the fact that you finally had to bow before the decline of EVE and open your eyes to what others told you for months, years even.
Does it hurt? It sure has for you to come crawling before the community.

I was very vocal about all the fuckup regarding the newsletter, your mail, the MT road to perdition and neglect of FIS. And ITS STILL NOT FORGOTTEN:

You took something from us the past months, the faith that EVE would get better over time and that we all have the best interest to keep EVE going. YOU seemed to rather focus on WoD and Consoles, basically preparing your company to work without EVE Online.
The players reacted accordingly, and do what they do the moment they think the dev-cycle is nearing its end. They leave, as investing time+money in something thats ending is not worth it.

So here we are, CCP not ready yet to live without EVE, but players ready to live without CCP/EVE and leaving. And you come to us now, telling us you see the light, and everything will get better.

Now let me tell you this: ITS NOT A ONE TIME THING. You can't expect us to flip back to "oh we trust CCP now" stage. We don't. Many reactions here are just "relieve", but the will get ANGRY AT YOU the moment you screw up just a bit, NEVER FORGET THAT.

I say: cudos to you if you mean it, if you truly learned. Shame on you if you are just trying to overcome the 2-3 years it will take you to get WOD ready.
We are not blind, we have been fooled by you guys before (no MT statements, promises about iterations....). We are very sensitive now, and even if we are holding on to last straws to keep playing, every thing you do now will be watched very closely.

Thank you for that Hellmar.

It is frustrating, knowing where you want to get to but feeling that things are moving forward so slowly ...

The problem is that it is not enough to have a good game now and be heading towards a fantastic future for EVE; every step on the way there has to be a playable, fun game that is better than it was before, delivered with sinister grace.

Now, go and get busy doing some more impossible things.

Well Hilmar... do i believe you? Actually yes, yes I do.
But remember this: Actions speak louder than words
Restore me from my jaded state and show us all just how great EvE can be.

Quite impressed by the letter. It's good to see that both you and CCP are back on the right track. This is something players have been waiting for for years, and it will do much to entice old jaded vets as well. Big smile
