They tie up some amount of money in capital and cost some amount of fuel to maintain and they can be used to support various business models in a manner that allows the owner to make a profit off of running the POS.

cost: That depends. Running costs for a small tower are on the order of 110 million a month. medium and large are twice and four times as expensive. The actual tower and modules will cost you more, as a one off (till they explode). You'll also need appropriate standings for highsec towers.

making isk from them:
In highsec? Tech 2 stuff. mostly copying. Some research.
In lowsec: booster stuff
In wormholes: Living.
In null: moon mining.

Woo! CSM XI!

Seriously, OP, did you even BOTHER to use Google or hit the Wiki before wasting the bandwidth? We're all for helping people out here, but do the Tutorial missions for industry & business, PAY ATTENTION, hit the Wiki, hit Google, then come back with relevant questions.

Meh... don't troll the op. It's not the OPs fault that there's a lot of suckers to published POS manuals decades ago and never updated them. Googling up the topic usually gives you many outdated results.

Some of those have dates on them...

Anyway, he was asking (essentially) what POSes are used for, and what current fuel & stick prices are. Those are things easily found through search.

You didn't got the joke :\

@OP:

Current quick example using current market prices (might change any time):

Small Gallente Control Tower: 65m
A week of fuel for it (1680 Gallente Fuel Blocks): 35m

I missed one detail before tho. I see you are on 70 man corp, member of IC. A POS is a corp asset, *not* a personal thing you can just anchor on your own. Check with corp leadership before deploying shiney stuff.
