AB vs MWD and tactics?

Got my first solo kill a couple of hours ago in a AB fit punisher against a MWD fit rifter. It was a close fight and part of the reason I beat him is he came head on with me and let me scram him. If he didn't come into scram range I can't see how I could have possibly beat him.

I saw comments on battleclinic about how ABs were better than MWDs in low sec. Could you please explain this to me? And how do you get into scram range with someone who is 3X as fast as you? Thanks!

To answer one part of your question: enter a minor plex and wait at the point of entry from the acceleration gate. The advantage there is the ship will come in directly on top of you for an easy scram. However, the advantage works both ways: if you're the one entering, an mwd ship like the slicer will wait at range and kite the doodoo out of you.

The Slingshot is also a good option when fighting a kiter.

When talking frigate fights, then AB is very viable .. weapon ranges are with a few exceptions the same or shorter than scram range so even if an enemy has MWD he pretty much has to enter scram if he wants to do anything.

May change when the rest of the frigates are tiericided as there are bound to be several that will be designed around long range weapons, but you will still be looking at a maximum of 24km (T2 Point) and unless the kiter has an insane speed advantage (think old Dramiel) he will have to be quite a bit closer to ensure point stays on for the duration.

Frig fights > All. The challenge/fun is a lot greater when you have a load of stuff to check, know, understand and implement rather than just EHP/Dps.
