Low sec and null. Less competition, more isk (sometimes)

Unfortunately i would be easy pray since i dron ship pilot. I would rather take slow just enough money for extra plex or better items.

Before you ever start, you need to understand that exploration is variable. You can make almost nothing one day, and hundreds of millions the next. So don't start, have a really lucky few weeks, then come in here when you go a week without any good drops saying something about a stealth nerf to highsec exploration. We've seen lots of people do that, and they've all been wrong.

Rather than try to write up a whole guide, here are some things you should look into:

- Scanning with probes. Without this, you're not going to get far.
- DED and other combat sites. Specifically, what kind of ships you'll need for different sites.
- RADAR sites and hacking

Ignore highsec magnetometric sites. They're not worth the time and ammo spent clearing the rats.

edit: low/null exploration is more profitable, but also more risky. Learn the ropes in highsec, build up a cash reserve so you have enough to replace any losses you take, THEN step out into lowsec.

From my experience, yes. I easily make enough exploring in high sec to purchase a couple plex each month for my two accounts and to feed my pvp habit. That might not be "profitable" by other people's definition, but it is by mine.

I only do radar and 3/10 and 4/10 sites in Serpentis space.

It all depends on your definition of "profitability" and the time you are going to spend on it. You can easily earn enough to plex your exploration account and buy shiny stuff. Because of it's randomness you cant really be sure about you profits. Sometimes you can do 20 sites and get nothing valuable ( personal experience ) but then you will get lucky and it will even out.

From my own experience :

ISK profitability ( for hisec combat sites )

Guristas > Angel > Serpentis > Blood = Sansha

ISK profitability ( for lowsec combat sites )

Guristas > Blood = Sansha > Angel > Serpentis

- Lowsec Blood and Sansha are better because they get DED6 sites while Serpentis and Angel don't - they get 'fake' DED6 that are much longer and harder than normal DED's ( and quite often expes to nullsec ). That makes them more profitable in practice although Angel loot is more profitable in itself.
- There is also a difference in implants. Angel and Blood have cheap ones while other factions have much more expensive ones so it you are doing more unrated sites then it can make a difference.

You may get lucky and make billions in a few days. ( once again - personal experience )
You may get not-so-lucky and make poor millions in a few days.

Yes, contrary to what others say, you can make some decent ISK in high sec exploration. Most Mag and Radar sites rarely have NPC's and if they do, your Drones can quickly kill them. However, sometimes when failing to hack or open a can, it will trigger a booby trap resulting in the release of damage. Though negligible to your ship, triggering one booby trap will knock out Drone shields and might cause some armor damage.

Mag sites are plentiful and can be quickly completed, usually net between 1 to 2 mill, sometimes more.
Radar sites are rarer and can also be quickly completed, usually net between 5 to 20 mill, sometimes more.
Combat sites take time to complete and may drop Faction / Deadspace loot. ISK net varies.
Expeditions gained from combat sites take longer to complete and usually end in low sec. Good chance to gain Faction / Deadspace loot. ISK net varies.

Some cosmic anomalies have small chance to spawn Commander NPC's holding Faction loot and even smaller chance to gain expedition. ISK net varies.

The main thing to remember about high sec exploration is location, location, location. Especially since there's a lot of players doing it. Lot's of competition. Try to look for areas with low population count. Also it's a traveling career in which you'll need dedication and persistence to make it worthwhile. Most of the exploration sites and expeditions are documented in the Evelopedia.

Anyway, these old threads contain some more of my thoughts regarding exploration.
