So don't forget to make a thread "I'm unsubscribing because ... " before you go - I guess this is the only way to make CCP listen. Their ears are in their pockets.

Or they could just leave and let CCP see the drop in numbers for themselves? As opposed to making a big hoo-ha on the forums and then shitposting constantly 'until their sub runs out', which by the way never does quite seems to end.

Or maybe I'm looking at this wrong. Obviously all these people that make "I'm leaving/unsubbing" posts keep getting free gametime from CCP... Maybe I should start doing that too Shocked

There should be room for all types of play in Eve without nerfing the game play of any other group..

True though they need to do something for the solo/casual player.

I still say get more stations into 0.0 they can base out of. All that empty space not being used.

There a difference between flying solo and playing solo. I'm never in a fleet and my corp is me and a pretend copy of my wife, but every market transaction is dependent on everyone else in the game. That means everyone's bottom line is PvP even if you never utter a word to anyone.

It's not that EVE is solo-friendly, it's just group-unfriendly.

What I mean is, EVE has a pretty big world. So, say my friend and I make a character each. Only I make a Caldari and he makes an Amarr, and we end up 40+ jumps away from each other. By the time one of us gets to where the other is, it's been hours of the most boring gameplay ever - click a gate, click jump, rinse, repeat. That's incidentally how people quit the game.

Then, when we get together, there's really no reward for working together. As in, the rewards are split in half, rather than just reduced. Compare that to Guild Wars 2, where content difficulty scales dynamically with the number of players, and the XP doesn't go down, it goes UP. In EVE parlance, it would mean 2 people doing the same content would get harder enemies and much more ISK as a result, compared to doing the same content solo. Not because of speed, but because of added difficulty. There's little to no incentive to group, except for content that cannot be soloed.

And finally there's high probability that whoever you group with, if he's a stranger, that he'll stab you in the back and take your stuff.

End result? People group a lot less than they normally would in another MMO.

Yep. Thats exactly what happened to me and my friends when we first played and subsequently all quit within a month or two. We all ended up like 20+ jumps from each other and there was zero direction into what we could do together as group content.

I've really only managed to convince one of them to return and try the game again to be honest.

The thing about EVE is that it is similar to concepts in real life. You can absolutely play it solo if that's what you want to do but you will be limited in some of your experiences.

For example, in real life, I can go out the grocery store solo and buy food but I would not be able to run a grocery store completely solo.

I play 95% solo as a miner / industrialist / marketeer but that's because those are the things that I enjoy. If I wanted to become more involved in some of the other aspects of the game, it would be more difficult to do so without some support.

Find the things that you enjoy doing and then you can determine if they are things that you can accomplish solo or not.

I'd like to explore something the newsletter got wrong.

The newsletter pointed to results from the survey that indicated that more people play EVE solo than in groups. The newsletter then proclaims:

"EVE is evidently rather solo-friendly!"

No. Don't misinterpret your survey's findings. More people play your game solo. That does not mean in the slightest that it's friendly to solo players. It's actually quite, QUITE the opposite. You even have staff saying:

"Trying to solo EVE Online is like trying to solo Facebook." -- Torfi Frans Olafsson, Creative Director

People try to enjoy your game solo DESPITE it not being supported. They don't play it solo because it's solo-friendly.

The inevitable reaction from extroverts is going to be "Oh, okay. How do we get all these people to start playing socially? How do we show them that being extroverted is the best?"

No. No, it's enough to make an introvert cry. Don't stomp on us, telling us the "real way to play" is to be social. Clearly more than half of your players are trying to do it solo because that's the way they want to play. Not because they don't know the joys of being an extrovert, but because they are introverts. Because that's who they are and what they want to be doing. Not because they haven't been introduced to the community.

More than half of your players solo your game. It's time to start supporting them. It's time to start making it more viable, more enjoyable.

Dear Ford,

I am suing you because I used your car as a boat and almost drowned. I am emotionally scared from the experience.

Dear Widow,

I am writing you because I heard of your unfortunate incident with your Ford. I would like to invite you to come testdrive our new 2013 Chevy Aquanaut. If you are pleased, we will be willing to offer you a trade in for your Ford.

There's a version of Eve that is a single player game? Cause that would be swell.

Solo may be a four letter word, but it is by no means taboo.

Look up X3: Albion Prelude or X3: Terran Conflict. Anyone familiar with eve will find the structure of the x3 games quite similar. They have some innovations* so it isn't a straight copy and paste of eve, rather it is a game in the same vein as eve but designed for solo play from the ground up.

Mind you, after a while playing with a bunch of AI's might get boring, but if you're an uber-introvert it might be for you.

*manual piloting of ships, a significantly wider selection of weaponry, being able to assign AI to pilot your other ships, much better pos interface and greater pos capabillities, more interesting ship variety, fully customizable AI's for combat, exploration, or trade missions.

What would be the point of player interaction if it were forced? Why should I be denied the choice to be a good trustworthy person in EVE?

Posting on this character because apparently some people get upset when they're asked difficult questions. M.

Your statement is highly dependent on what the OPer wants CCP to do to make it solo friendly. Just because a game involves lots of people doesn't mean your doing it wrong if your not grouping with them.

Better and more complex pve content would be a solo friendly addition.

one would hope that CCP understands that "solo" play can cover a wide gamut of ingame activities, very few of which center around PVP.

market is solo
exploring is solo
WH hopping for low level blue loot is often solo
Missioning is often solo
sec repair might have not been solo originally but it sure is now with the group nerf
can flipping can be solo
PI is solo
moon goo mining is pretty much solo unless someone attacks your POS
mining is solo (well it used to be anyhow)

but as you can see most of these solo activities don't include roaming or camping gates

sure people solo roam, and some get lucky, but it's a very niche industry in comparison
