I'd like to explore something the newsletter got wrong.

The newsletter pointed to results from the survey that indicated that more people play EVE solo than in groups. The newsletter then proclaims:

"EVE is evidently rather solo-friendly!"

No. Don't misinterpret your survey's findings. More people play your game solo. That does not mean in the slightest that it's friendly to solo players. It's actually quite, QUITE the opposite. You even have staff saying:

"Trying to solo EVE Online is like trying to solo Facebook." -- Torfi Frans Olafsson, Creative Director

People try to enjoy your game solo DESPITE it not being supported. They don't play it solo because it's solo-friendly.

The inevitable reaction from extroverts is going to be "Oh, okay. How do we get all these people to start playing socially? How do we show them that being extroverted is the best?"

No. No, it's enough to make an introvert cry. Don't stomp on us, telling us the "real way to play" is to be social. Clearly more than half of your players are trying to do it solo because that's the way they want to play. Not because they don't know the joys of being an extrovert, but because they are introverts. Because that's who they are and what they want to be doing. Not because they haven't been introduced to the community.

More than half of your players solo your game. It's time to start supporting them. It's time to start making it more viable, more enjoyable.

I am an introvert, and I support the wholesale slaughter of cattle for consumption.

You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.

If you want to play a single player spaceship game, then play a single player spaceship game.

You have my full support. Just because we like to solo does not mean, the game is solofriendly, which it isn't. (It's still pretty to look at though Cool )

Your statement is highly dependent on what the OPer wants CCP to do to make it solo friendly. Just because a game involves lots of people doesn't mean your doing it wrong if your not grouping with them.

Try the X3 series, its a space simulator similar to eve but solo, good game for waiting on ccp to expand solo content.

I consider low level EVE play to be solo friendly.

When you ask CCP to make EVE more solo friendly, what do you mean?

I don't want to do that. I do enjoy playing MMOs mostly solo, however. Other human players add a level of complexity and spontaneity that purely computer generated or pre-designed gameplay often lacks.

Besides, I enjoy reading about people's experience of EVE on the forums. Single player games don't have a shared world.

Eve is a solo activity due to paranoia. Living under anarchy is a lonely existence. There are plenty of mmos where almost the entire playerbase is group oriented. People form groups when they're not afraid of being ganked by said group.

I agree, the results don't mean what they are concluding.. EVE is a game where trust is at a premium. Some people play solo for lack of trusted partners; that doesn't mean trying to solo anything is easy ..or even possible.

I like how the NPC's in this game post on the forum and simulate human logic. This is indeed the best singleplayer spaceship game known to man.

There's a version of Eve that is a single player game? Cause that would be swell.

Solo may be a four letter word, but it is by no means taboo.

They somehow managed to get every freak and creep in the universe in this one game, and then somehow managed to let them take it over, and then they somehow managed to stick us right smack in the middle.

Even if you are in a one man corp, spinning your ship in station all day, you're spooking someone in local to thinking you're a scout alt.

If someone craps in your sandbox: 1. Light it on fire 2. Grab your shovel 3. Throw it back at them.

I am thinking it has more to do with timing of when players are online.
My guess is at any time in EVE more players are going solo than are in groups.
Even though at some point you will group up with someone else.
Obviously the game would be extremely boring if you could not do anything at all solo and had to wait for a group before you could do anything at all in game. Then how many players log on with alts to make a group. In a way they are still solo.

I think it has more to do with the meaning of word "solo". You can be a part of a corporation but still play mostly solo - hauler, mining, industry corporations don't really require that much teamwork, especially with the prevalence of alts.

Even when you're in a huge nullsec PvP-oriented corp it's not like you PvP constantly - the blobs are on a schedule, and in the free time you might as well go ratting or plexing - on your own.

With introvert you mean social failure, scared nerd or someone who hates humans?

Computer games are not suitable for these kind of people with personality disorders, and they should seek help.
