Slow FPS with Alienware M17x

Hi all.

Here's my configuration :

Intel Core i7-2670QM CPU 2,2 GHz
8 Go RAM
Nvidia Geforce GTX 690

And my FPS, with high settings graphics in eve:

Station : 60 FPS
Space : 40 FPS
Busy : 20 FPS

I think it's really bad considering my configuration : I run other recent games in high settings without problems, all my drivers are updated.

I saw other peoples who have a worst configuration with better fps in high configuration ....

Someone could help me to fix this ? I tried some modification but it wasn't great ... it's like if my game run on the intagrated chipset graphic card instead of the Nvidia ...

I forgot how I did it, but you have to force the game to ALWAYS use the nvidia chipset. IIRC, it's in the intel driver utility... make sure the "exception" is for "exefile.exe" and not just "eve.exe" (or whatever the launcher is called).

While the "hey, let's use the intel card for everything to save battery" idea is great on paper and for "general use" laptops, it's absolutely ******** for when you're buying a "gaming rig" (I really wish they kept the discrete gfx on the higher end machines)

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

May i allow more memory for eve ?

The game only use 1G on the 8 i have. I read i can put it at half the maximal memory.

Could my performances increase if i put it to 4 ? how to do this ?

A desktop graphics card in a laptop ?
Want to look under the hood again and tell us what you have inside for real this time ? GeForce GTX 680M came out only 2 days ago and there is no 690M yet so you probably have a 670M.

Like some said before, you probably are running EVE with the integrated intel video by accident instead of using the graphics card. The FPS you are getting looks more like what you would get with that instead a much weaker video compated to what you probably have. Make sure the correct video is selected.
In the switchabe graphics configuration thing when you run eve or soon after you exit it make sure the "performance" (nvidia) is selected not the other one (intel) not default (can be any could be the intel).

It's funny you should say that, because my computer is about 1/3rd as flashy/expensive as that, and yet runs EVE at high settings no problems, as well as many other high-end games. Can you say "someone paid far too f*cking much for technology that won't be useful for a couple years, at which point it'll be standard anyway"?

"We will create the introduction thread if that is requested by the community. Also, we will have an ISD Seminar about the CCL team in the coming weeks in which you can ask your questions about the CCL team and provide some constructive feedback to us." - Countless pages of locked threads and numerous permabanned accounts later, change is coming.

This is the options on Dells homepage

NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 660M med 2GB GDDR5-minne
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 675M med 2GB GDDR5-minne
AMD® Radeon™ HD 7970M med 2 GB GDDR5-minne

I'm not that familiar with the M cards but the 675 should be able to play EVE on all high if it's anything near the GTX 670.

A i see the problem !

I don't read the good line on nvidia web site.

My real configuration :
GeForce GTX 560M

Should i reasonably play with high settings with that ?

they say the 7300 GT (desktop) card is minimum ... dunno where a GTX 560 falls... (unless you typoed something)...

Take power cord out and plug back in - wait a minute or so.

Somtimes the machine boots up thinking its in battery mode and down clocks your gpu and cpu. If this does not help check using cpu-id that your cores and running correctly and that the single core eve is running on is 'overclocked' with boost.

Somtimes the cores can also get "stuck" on a poor multiplier, use throttlestop program to force it out of this, this happend on a mobile i7 to me before.

I had crappy running on three clients as well with my GTX 680

I changed present interval to immediate and my response times are now much better on full graphics for all three clients on three different monitors... suggest you try that and ignore the trolls

Your laptop probably has NVIDIA OPTIMUS. Your computer has 2 videocard, one intergrated and one good one.

Go to NVIDIA control panel, there you should "Manage 3D settings" and In there there is a box under "Global Settings", with "Auto-Select", "High-Performance NVIDIA processor" and "Integrated Graphics." You probably have "Auto-Select" on by default, but this option quite often fails horribly, and when gaming, you should force NVIDIA processor to be the default option, otherwise your game might start with Intel HD 4000 something. Also, in the bottom right corner of the screen you should see a "Plugged In" icon, click on that, and select "High Performance."
