Torfi Frans Olafsson: "You have to eat and sleep. If you're not eating and sleeping, you don't care what's on TV tonight," he said. "We were focusing on things at the top of that pyramid instead of the basics, and now we're doing both."

Does this statement, the creative director Torfi Frans Olafsson project, that in the near future ССР still come back to the development of what was promised back in December of this year, followed by unlocking, door to exit kapsulerov of his close and pretty overexposed cabins, into the unknown labyrinth of mysterious and inviting stations?

OP, if you're asking about the WiS content, the answer is "not any time soon(tm)". CCP is currently fixing a lot of the FiS mechanics that have been broken/neglected for a long time in favour of the terrible "Jesus Features" and WiS.

With that in mind, I do recall them saying they have some (many?) of the assets ready to go, and it was also a discussion topic at the most recent CSM summit (Last week?), so more information will be shared in the CSM minutes which will be released in a month or so (though, maybe sooner ... they need to scrub the NDA stuff Blink)

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Most current hardware is pushed to support one avatar in one room, let alone a cocktail party in the station lounge. I am betting they are shelving WiS to give hardware a chance to catch up, at least as much as any other reason.

I'm willing to bet that "getting back to basics" in a spaceship game will have something to do with spaceships, not clothing.

No, the door will not be opened anytime soon, which is a damn good thing.

Ugh, articles like this really tick me off. Like the interviewer says: "CCP attempted to add bipedal human avatars to its spaceship game last year before being met with organized player resistance that caused the developer to temporarily shelve its grander plan." That is not even close to what happened. Had there been actual content there, instead of a room with nothing to do in it, and perhaps NEX store not implemented in the same patch, things would have been very different. Makes it sound like players were just against avatars for the sake of it, which is bunk, many EVE players myself included want meaningful avatar gameplay and have been dreaming about it for years. Just not at the cost of the rest of the game.

And null being called endgame? Again?! And FW as a stepping stone towards null? Despite tons of people saying they went to FW to SPECIFICALLY ESCAPE all the drama of null sec? Sigh...

And OP, as to the quote about eating and sleeping, I think he just meant to say that they won't be losing sight of the game's core elements this time around, that's all. I don't think he's suggesting anything else beyond that.

Torfi is likely referring to a psychological theory named Maslow's hierarchy of needs modified to deal with game development. The "basic" needs of humanity - breathing, food, etc (being able to install, log in, fly ships), must be attained before focus or desire of progression up the hierarchy is attained.

Quoting for emphasis. Incarna was barely even a tech demo. We weren't mad that CCP did something other than a total focus on spaceships (okay, most of us weren't), we were mad because the thing that had been hyped for months was a complete non-event. Worse than that, it was something that bogged down the player experience. This combined with the total lack of respect from CCP caused the uprising and exodus; not the fact that we had pretty avatars now. I still want to see WiS done right.

But I'm not CCP Soundwave, so what do I know?

It seems after NeX failed miserably WiS became taboo for CCP - Olafsson blame avatars for last year player exodus (and not NeX and related / potentially upcoming "pay2win" model with circumcision of EVE economy) thus I wouldn't expect WiS to be reanimated in next 3-5 years (FW was 2008 project and wasn't taboo - took just 4 years to reanimate it).

CCP didn't even implement new clothing on TQ which is available on Sisi for like 8 months already - that much they afraid of WiS. Instead I expect NeX will be boosted. And this is sad.

This.

Now please apply Maslov's theory to your own product.
I really hope that anyday soon now somebody at CCP will realise that the basic needs of the eve-community are a functioning user interface. User Interface...UI...UI...UI.... got the hint?
