Thank you Hilmar! You've restored some of my faith in EVE and in CCP. Now, deliver and blow our minds once again

I think I just figured out when we will really know if there has been a change. It's not the "we're losing subs like crazy, damage control it!" moments. It's not the "we're so sorry, please don't unsub" moments.

We really won't know if there has been a change until a brand new feature roles out, and CCP can successfully listen to the players' words of caution while still ignoring the "I want a pony, and a BB gun" crowd (even though ponies and bb guns totally rock.) There will be lots of opportunities for this in the balancing and iteration stuff listed in Zulu's blog, but it's in new features where CCP has consistently failed.

Hellmer = Hilmar?

This blog sounds nice. It should have been written and delivered on June 30th. However, CCP appear to have realised they need to keep delivering product we want not product they want to deliver. Lots of management speak with a suitable level of contriteness.
This blog helps appease the burning rage.

Zulu's blog makes me happy.

Speaking as a 2003 player, I find Hilmar's apology to be long overdue and quite acceptable. Well written and seemingly sincere. I look forward to the future efforts.

Apology Accepted, I never doubted you for a second

I eagerly await a re-dedication to the the only game worthy of this level of trial to its life and longevity.

Any other game would have crumbled under the pressure. It is a testimony to the power of EVE when even after all we have been through together, you offer your hand , and we take it unquestioningly.

Welcome back, you were missed.

This is the blog we were waiting for.

This blog should be written long a go to relief the community.

Anyway its not too late. Looks like my friends and me getting back to game again.

I'd like to quote this from Hilmar.

" Now we need time to add the content that will bring more meaning to the gameplay—again, without disrupting the space combat simulator that many of you are, or at least were, very much in love with—and without delaying crucial improvements that this core experience desperately needs. "

Thank you!

This really goes help restore faith that was wavering. I really hope this new focus and honesty continues and I am sure that if it does your vision will be realised and any damage that has been done can be repaired.

Looking forward to seeing the future developments.

receiving incoming transmission: This is the first boarding call for Flight CCP New Direction requesting all New Eden capsuleers who would like to experience this to board at will for the long journey ahead.

+1 from me for these blogs they are certainly a step in the direction I'm interested in seeing EVE take. Now all that's left is for implementation of these ideas and reflections to take place so I can once again get back to one of my favourite activities of blowing crap up.

P.S. I do pray though that our pilot Captain Hilmar doesn't get drunk and pass out on the flight controls again causing this ship to spiral out of control in an unknown direction.

/me applauds quietly

Nice blog Hillmar, i think one that needed to be there a while ago. It takes courage to admit mistakes, no denying that. Nevertheless it is too little and way too late IMO.
It took more than a few months coming to this conclusion? Yet the path taken with the upcoming expansion is still not enough to get your veteran players back. I’m afraid you veteran base has still been left out. You know, those players and corporations that used to make Eve the sandbox it used to be. The sandbox that used to draw corporations like Burn Eden towards Eve day in and day out. That same sandbox that created a lot of superb players and corporations. It was a never-ending circle where CCP pushed us to the end of our gaming abilities to come up with tactics an innovative game play, in return CCP came up with better servers, better game play.

A game driven by players and game designers alike. Where designers were able to play the game to know what was needed and what was needed to be fixed or implemented.

Everything collapsed as soon as the number of subscriptions started to guide the game evolution. CCP wanted 2 months old characters to get into 0.0 ASAP, faced with 6 year old veteran characters the newbies got their arses handed. Their cries and their wines were all that mattered, nerfing the crap out of modules and ships became the solution to all the tears. Up till now I still wonder way. Webs countered nano, nano countered jams and damps, jams countered webs, damps countered snipers, snipers countered tackle and/ or dps. Your game was perfect. It was a sandbox we only could dream of. What would the enemy bring and what can we do about it? I remember the first engagement where a carrier was put into fight. Nowadays the game has become predictable: drake and hurricane blobs with their logi support or maelstrom/ abaddon blobs and their logis supported by the super cap blobs depending on the time of the day. Your sandbox turned into a mud pool where movement is limited and basically turned into everything except what you want the game to be.

This post will probably get burnt into the ground by the Goons, their alts and the similar lemmings that hide behind the safety of their PC and their internet connection. Ironically they are the same people that buy you drinks and food on the fan fest nonstop once they know who you are.

Your blog and the blog about the winter expansion might give you some lemmings back, however the veterans that helped you build Eve will stay away. As veterans we miss the raw, uncontrolled attitude that EVE had. The steep learning curve assured a certain level of players (both in game and out game).

Frankly, every patch after Red Moon Rising has pushed this game more in the direction of Star Wars Galaxies. (and we know what happened there, right)?. New players are not meant to be up the same level as veterans. They are a welcome addition to the game , but they need time to grow as we once used to. The new patch is not going to change anything about that, more nerfs and so called “fixes” are throwing this game out of balance more and more.
I don’t care if you or one of your Dev actually read this and I have even less hopes of anyone at CCP seeing the truth in it. (I don’t care at all of the “fun” post with predictable content that will certainly follow from a certain type of players and alliances)
Admitting you were mistaken is one thing, showing you have the courage to actually really fix the game is something really different.

Must admit, your marketing department plays the masses well judging by the reactions of awesomeness people make. I can’t believe people how easily people can be keep happy with words only.
Too bad I resubbed with this character just before the last patch, I’m stuck here for at least another 9 months. Lucky for me my other 7 accounts were GTC paid and will not go active anytime soon, unless you really fix the game.

As stated in the beginning, it is too little too late. The good thing is we have World of Tanks and Star Wars the Old Republic looks good.
