If you shoot a pirate first in low-security space...

Gate guns won't shoot the pirate if he shoots back? Has this always been the case?

For some reason, I've always thought that as long as the pilot's security status is <= -5, the gate guns will shoot the pirate no matter who shoots first. I guess I was mistaken.

It's always (since I started playing anyway) been this way.

Gate guns won't shoot the pirate when he shoots you because you aggressed him. If it was the other way around then he would have gone GCC (provided you yourself have a sec status higher than -4.5) and have been engaged by them.

All that being -4.5 or better means is that other pilots can engage you on stations and stargates without fear of repercussions from the sentry guns.

Wow. Well then, I guess pirates have always shot me first since I started playing EVE. Until today.

Actually you are an outlaw at -5.
-4.5 is only relevant when entering an 0.5 system.

My bad.

It's been so long since I went past -4.5/5 I blended the two together,

The aggro system is set up so you can always defend yourself against an aggressor.

Oh, this thread makes my pirate heart warm and fuzzy. Love it when people shoot me first on gates.

If I had it my way, gate guns would not have perfect tracking for when I do decide to aggress. It's ridiculous. It makes fast tackle for pirates on gates and stations useless unless you have logi's constantly repping them and eachother. God forbid they get out of rep range before eventually warping off.

If you are the good guy why would you shoot first? Leave the poor pirate alone!

I too feel Warm and Fuzzy about this.

But use the status as pirate on our side is good as long as we can shoot back after they shot us once. if we would still get gate guns after that it would be hopeless ^^

-4.5 prevents you from entering 0.5.

I wouldn't say "prevents". Moreso a bit problematic. I've been known to fly shield canes from time to time between lowsec pockets that have 0.5 systems dividing them. As long as you scout your way through or bounce off of planets the faction police will have a harder time catching you. They also tend to web before they scram, which nicely slingshots you into warp as long as your not adjusting your alignment like a fool.

The threat is if there is a player who wants to pew you and happens to have some sort of tackle on gate. With faction police on his side, the best you can hope is to overload your MWD and make it back to gate.
