Just getting into PvP

Ok, so I just recently re-subbed with an old account and started a brand new character. I've laways been a solo PvE type of pilot in the past but I'm starting to get bored of it and wanted to try my luck at PvP. This character isn't really anything special yet, so my options are a bit limited for the time being.

Right now I'm piloting a Merlin and I really like it. I've also been lurking a bit and it seems like the Merlin is a good ship for a noob to use when first getting into PvP. Any advice on fittings for it? Also any PvP advice in general would be helpful. Thanks! Big smile

Best advice I can give:

Get some friends that know what they're talking about, and go pvp a LOT. Buy 100 merlins or whatever, then go fight stuff. FW areas are decent spots for finding small groups in small ships willing to fight you. RVB is an ok option.

I'd share a merlin fit but figuring that out is part of the fun. Good luck :)

I plan on living forever.......so far, so good.

I doubt this is an amazing fit, I haven't played with the new Merlin a ton, but it should be atleast something halfway decent-ish for you to buy a few of and charge into battle. If you don't have the fitting room for it yet, trade the Mag Field Stab for a Power Diagnostic Unit.

The key to learning PvP in frigs is to have a fit so cheap that you can throw it away. So you don't want to buy the best modules you can afford, you want to buy the best modules you can afford to buy 20 of. Meta 1-3 gear is great for that.

[Merlin, New Setup 1]
Micro Auxiliary Power Core I
Magnetic Field Stabilizer I
Damage Control I

Experimental 1MN Afterburner I
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I
'Langour' Drive Disruptor I
Medium Azeotropic Ward Salubrity I

Limited Light Ion Blaster I, Antimatter Charge S
Limited Light Ion Blaster I, Antimatter Charge S
Limited Light Ion Blaster I, Antimatter Charge S

[empty rig slot]
[empty rig slot]
[empty rig slot]

(It's definitely not an amazing fit, but it's a cheap fit which might give you some good ideas for the future)

Put on your reading glasses:

start with Muira Bull's PvP guide: Here

The fits for merlins will be out of date but the rest is great up to date information.

Then check out Azual's know your enemy series: Here

Wensley's Rifter drifter is good: Here

Taureen's early stuff is a step by step walk along of losing 20 punishers while learning pvp: Here

These will all help but are no substitute for getting out there and losing ships. Lots of em in ridiculous ways. Tackle something you think you can't kill and see how it goes. Also find a group of players that are into pvp. You don't have to join a corp if you don't want to. Many PvP groups have great public channels where pvp and fits are actively discussed and debated.

Also the updated merlin is a great ship capable of things like this and this.

Thanks! I've browsed a few fits but I get frustrated sometimes because them for the Merlin are still outdated. I'll definitely check this out and see how it goes!
