its called testing the waters. no offense to ccp but they arent activision or like origin where they can afford to spend millions on a project and have it fail and/or have it released on every console. and im pretty sure that ps4 will be like ps2 and ps3 where can you play previous versions of games on the updated console. If dust 514 succeeds and goes above and beyond their expectations they will branch out to other consoles and market the game to a worldwide audience. Go to college and and get yourself educated on the anatomy of business then maybe you might understand what ccp is doing here.

While I agree that DUST 514 is pretty much doomed (the way it is planned now), to me this is nothing shocking or even CCP-specific.

Look, every so often - which is to say VERY often - some developer does something stupid. Look at Bioware and SWTOR. In early Summer beta, beta testers have said that the design is flawed at the core and that the game will be dead 3 months past release. Fanboys said "no wai!", and developers agreed. We all know how that release played out, don't we?

EVE has its own history of this nonsense, namely Incarna. CCP was told, repeatedly, that it wouldn't fly the way it was. They didn't listen, and once again we all know what happened last summer.

And this sad litany of poor decisions goes far, far back into the distant past.

Bottom line? Someone in a position of power somewhere suddenly decided that, contrary to all available evidence, doing something like this is a good idea. He is being told that this is a mistake, but he either just doesn't know about it, doesn't care, or believes everyone (including prospective customers of the upcoming product) is wrong. At this point, barring some miracle, the product is already doomed before it even sees the light of day.

Now, I admit that there have been miracle recoveries. Very few, and very far apart, and usually not in MMO genre. But they have happened. And it can happen in DUST. Even just a handful of very talented and passionate developers can turn an otherwise hopeless product into something borderline enjoyable. It just remains to be seen if it'll work this time.
