There are two new phishing mails in the works with content as bellow:

Mail 1

To: (my email adress)
Subject: Petition: EVE Online Account suspended
From: EVE Online (support@eve-online.com)

Hi,

This mail is sent to inform you that your EVE Online account, has been closed as the account security is compromised.

It appears that hackers have gained access to your account. In order to prevent damage to your account we have closed it for seven days and created a new random password for it. Please make sure to clean your PC of keyloggers and trojans before accessing the account again.

All you should need to do, in order to gain back access to the account, is to use the following link: (tiny url inserted)

There are ways to avoid getting hacked;

1. Never buy ISK for real money.
2. Never visit ISK selling websites.
3. Never use macro programs.
4. Never share accounts with anyone.
5. Avoid logging into EVE using public computers.
6. Do not use the same username in different MMOs and if you do, certainly do not use the same password.
7. Change your password periodically.
8. Maintain a complex password.

Following these simple steps will make it much less likely that one’s account will be hacked.

Best regards,
Senior GM Nova

They are getting crafty. The below email was sent on February 1st, and uses copy taken from the official EVE Online Web site regarding the network issues we experienced on that day. Do not click the link in the body of the email if you received a copy of this:

Quote:

We are currently experiencing issues with our accounts database. While players are adversely affected by this, features such as the EVE Online Web site, forums, the API, and our billing services are currently unavailable to many users. Please use the following link to check if you are affected by losing your account:

This attempt has been brought to our attention recently. The "link to the dev blog" brings you to an account log in page. Don't click it.

Quote:
It goes something as follows:

Do you want to simpl y win ships you can fly?

EVE Online organizes first lottery and invites you to win one of over one hundred prizes.

Visit our Dev blog for details.

First Prize is an racial Titan of your choise with best ingame fittings.

It looks very official, and the dev blog link takes you to log-in to your account.

Another phishing attempt that's similar to the other character trasnfer.

Quote:
"You have chosen to transfer your character to the account named xxxxxxxx.

We are currently processing this transfer. The character you are transferring will remain on your account, but will not be playable until the transfer automatically completes.

If you did not initiate this character transfer, please file a petition to Customer Support.

If you have any questions, you may browse the EVE Knowledgebase or email support@eve-online.com and one of our customer support representatives will be happy to assist you."

Now initially I found it odd that a few of us not wanting to transfer characters recieved this email on the same day. So naturally I linked the link to create a petition to stop this transfer.

Once I do I get this message - "Reported Web Forgery blah blah blah." My computer just saved my ass in other words.

So my warning to you is this. If you recieve this email create a petition in game. Do not follow any links ect....

Sony’s PSN network has been compromised and the following customer data has been obtained:

• Your name
• Your address (city, state, and zip)
• Country
• E-mail address
• Birthday
• PSN password and login name

If you had a PSN account that used any of the same login information you use anywhere else you are advised to change it immediately. This goes for secret questions that can be used potentially to access your email or other personal accounts as well. You should also review any credit card details used on the PSN network as there is no definite answer as to whether this information was compromised. Please see the article from Ars Technica with some more details for the curious: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2011/04/sony-admits-utter-psn-failure-your-personal-data-has-been-stolen.ars.

We would like to remind players that one should never use the same login information across various sites and services. This helps ensure that your information can be secure when a popular service has been compromised.

There is a new phishing email out there related to yesterday's attack on the EVE Online servers. Its text mirrors the announcement we made, but also includes a link to a malicious website. All pilots are advised to ignore this email and not to click on the link.

The phishing email text is below:

Quote:

A message from our COO.

At 17:00 UTC today, CCP became aware of a distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS) against the EVE Online cluster and web servers.

Our policy in such cases is to mobilize a taskforce of internal and external experts to evaluate the situation. At 17:55 UTC, that group concluded that our best course of action was to go completely offline while an exhaustive scan of our entire infrastructure was executed.

While some may feel that such a drastic reaction was not warranted, it is always our approach to err on the side of caution in order to ensure the best possible service for our players and the security of their personal, billing and account information.

We understand the effect this disruption has had for our players and apologize for not having been able to explain fully to the community what was going on. In these cases it can often be counterproductive to containment to give out information while we are in the process of evaluating the scope of any potential problem.

Our taskforce concluded at 22:05 that neither the game servers nor the CCP infrastructure had been breached. Further, we can also confirm that some personal details such as users' credentials or credit card numbers were exposed through this incident.

Please check yourself if your personal details was compromised by visiting Account Management page. (link omitted).

The servers were brought back online at 23:00 and we will continue to monitor the situation closely.

Again, we sincerely apologize for this disruption.

Jón Hörðdal

Hours for PLEX is a really awesome feature we offer to our players that have allowed their accounts to lapse to get back into their spaceships quickily and easily. Unfortionatly there is a phishing attempt going around trying to take advantage of this promotion. Keep an eye out for bad links in emails like this one:

Quote:

Turn your ISK into Game Time!

Recently we put in place a new feature to give inactive and past pilots four hours of access to EVE Online to allow easily reactivation of accounts using PLEX. Hours for PLEX lets you turn extra ISK and assets into PLEX to add game time to your account without the hassle of petitioning first or resubscribing with real life cash just to buy your time with virtual money.

Give Me My Hours For Plex

Over 40 new missions have been added this expansion, along with updated complexes featuring multiple never-before-seen pirate-faction modules. Check out the Incursion site for the full list of features and fixes that have arrived in just the past few months.
