Ratting Ship/Loadout Question(s)

I have only been playing for a month or so and am currently sitting on 1.3 mill sp (not much to a lot of you) and want to do something interesting that would be do-able solo. As it stand I can do lvl 3 missions but just barely and not often.

So my question is, would ratting in low and null sec be a worthy cause? Is it too much risk? How would you go about doing it? What -Caldari- ship would you use? How would you fit it?

Unrelated questions: how does cloaking work? Is there a guide you could point me to for any of the above and/or the d-scanner?

Thanks, I love your faces.

0.0 ratting is more a question of who you know than what you can fly. Does your corp have friends and allies in 0.0? If not, you probably don't want to be out there.
Don't think lowsec ratting is very popular. Just as risky as 0.0 ratting (or riskier, due to frequent lack of intel), much lower rewards.

Drakes work fine for newbie ratting as soon as you have enough skills to kill the BS rats without too much trouble.

This link explains the basics of how cloaking works.

On a side note; I can't find a corp that has the presence to keep me "safe" in null sec. I ether don't have the SP or experience to join the ones that do.

edit: looks like I answered your question on accident lol. Appreciate the link!
