Many of us have been here as long or almost as long as EVE has been here. While I to am encouraged by the message, I remain cautiously optimistic.

What I take from this are some lines in the sand that we can measure against. We have a commitment on additional Dev Blogs as well as a outline for goals they will try to meet in the winter 2011 expansion.

EVE's pilots want to support CCP. We want to LOVE the game. Follow through, set realistic goals, meet your obligations.

Oh and for the love of all that is holy PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE dedicate more resources to "the little things". There are so many daily paper cut issues / bugs in eve that at the end of a day of playing many of us are hemorrhaging. Most of these issues have been around for YEARS.

Sincerely,

Good read, seems honest - so thank you for that Hilmar.

It does read a lot like the concerns voiced by CSM5 over a year ago (and obviously also by CSM6 more recently), but better late than never :)

Good first step down a long road, Hellmar. Stay the course and we'll be with you every step of the way.

Looking forward to the follow on where you detail how you're going to commit to the new path. Please believe that we still wish you every success, and that all we've ever wanted was to sincerely help you make EVE the flagship of the entire MMO community. As I still believe it should be.

As I still believe it can be.

You said you were going to watch what we did. I know what you were thinking when you wrote those words, but let me recast them for you in another way. EVE is a sandbox, In the MMO world, EVE should stand for community, for partnership between players and developers, for continual evolution, for the greatest social experiment in gaming history.

Give us the opportunity to work with you, give us the tools to reshape this gorgeous, vicious, intriguing, unparalleled universe and then, by God, watch what we do with them.

Don't let us down and we won't let you down.

Deal?

This bears repeating. Also, thanks for the words Hilmar, they actually mean a lot.

The apology and honesty displayed in this dev blog will go a fair way to restoring player confidence in CCP, especially if the actions actually speak louder than the words.

Recently it's all been words :(

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I say bravo. All people really ever need in this kind of situation is direct, authentic, honest communication.

Humility and authenticity are rare qualities these days, and rarer still in the context of business.

I sincerely appreciate the candor, prescience, and empathy Hilmar demonstrated in his letter.

If he (and CCP) can demonstrate the same in their actions, then I'd say the future of this beautiful, merciless experiment we call Eve is safe.

Thank you for "Talking the talk". Now I hope that you "walk the walk". I am gladdened by what I have read but based on past history and performance, I will see what you do. I pray that you actually do "walk the walk".

I can imagine how hard writing this must have been Hilmar, respect! Smile

This gives me a lot of hope for the future, both for EVE and CCP. Soul-searching and honesty on this scale is almost unheard of in this industry of untimeliness greed, laziness and incompetence.

We love EVE, that's why we complain, that's why we got so angry.. because we care about the game, because this game is so unique and because the community is just on a completely different level than most of the other mmo-communities out there.

So yea, keep at it :)

A thank you is in order for the level and clarity of communication put out by Hilmar. There is a lot of honesty and heart in that blog and I wish we could see more of that level of communication. I would not imagine it being easy in any respect for a leader to come forward in such a way but you have mine and the communities respect for it.

If anything I would implore is that you don't stop now, the community wants to hear from you and wants to know your vision, don't hide it away like incarna or keep any of the shortcomings from us, just be open and share that passion we can see in your writing and we will be more than happy to help you make it real.

The advantage of a bad memory is that one can enjoy the same good things for the first time several times.

One will rarely err if extreme actions be ascribed to vanity, ordinary actions to habit, and mean actions to fear.

Shocked

I am honestly stunned. I can't for the life of me come up with a rude, witty, sarcastic remark here, Hilmar's blog was albeit a bit dramatic yet at the same time, it sounded humble and sincerely so.

These are finally the words we were all been waiting for.
Worse then making mistakes, is not assuming and repair them. Well done. Humbleness is something that Leaders sometime lack.

I hope Hilmar this is not only a Publicitaty stunt.
We are all "Embracing" this new CCP posture.

There are a string of MMOs that have failed as a result of the People At The Top losing sight of what their customers want in lieu of their own vision for their game. This dev blog is an indication that EVE Online, a bad game, might get a little better. Angry propellers to you for eating some crow with your rotten shark.
