Good first step down a long road, Hellmar. Stay the course and we'll be with you every step of the way.

Looking forward to the follow on where you detail how you're going to commit to the new path. Please believe that we still wish you every success, and that all we've ever wanted was to sincerely help you make EVE the flagship of the entire MMO community. As I still believe it should be.

As I still believe it can be.

You said you were going to watch what we did. I know what you were thinking when you wrote those words, but let me recast them for you in another way. EVE is a sandbox, In the MMO world, EVE should stand for community, for partnership between players and developers, for continual evolution, for the greatest social experiment in gaming history.

Give us the opportunity to work with you, give us the tools to reshape this gorgeous, vicious, intriguing, unparalleled universe and then, by God, watch what we do with them.

Don't let us down and we won't let you down.

Deal?

I do not agree with everything you said, but that is to be expected, I do however feel you came to a moment of insight that put the priorities of CCP back on track this pleases me and I am sure others.

I applaud you for your honesty, it is not an easy thing to write something like that. Now we will be watching.

I, for one, welcome our new monocle-wearing, blog-writing, ship-spinning overlords.
Like everyone else I too desire actions over words, but I'd say this is a heck of a good start.

I knew you had it in you laddie P

Well done Hilmar and I love the conclusion of the blog where you show that you really learnt something; it's not what you say...

Thank you - I want to stay with eve so you better deliver!

Great blog, fully honest and heartfelt.

Well done sir, it takes a brave man to admit what you've admitted. I'm pretty sure that if the Winter Expansion delivers, you'll see numbers climbing back up again and old faces returning. We all love this game, or we wouldn't get so passionate about it.

Long live EVE!

And best of luck in your future games too.

Brilliant!Big smile

As a new player (of 3 months) I had wonderd if I'd made a mistake and entered the New Eden universe just as it was heading for the Big Crunch and a mass exodus of players. I'm so relieved that your blog post appears to signal a new dawn for Eve in general.

Congratulations CCP, to all the CSM members and the players that voiced their concerns so effectively. I'm really looking forward to a truly awesome Eve Online.

To see this from CCP's head officer is reassuring. Despite all the posts in here that say 'they are just words' They are HUGE words and a shift in attitude.

Let this be the beginning of a CCP that is back to it's roots, back to being EVE the gaming community that was/should always be the envy of all MMOG communities.

Many a player has shown faith by holding onto EVE in the darkest of times. This blog shows you reaching out and having faith in your customers instead of the past impression we got of CCP customers being taken for granted. For showing this faith and reaching out I am resubbing all my accounts to ensure that my part is being paid to ensure all CCP employees are well paid from the top to the bottom, well paid and comfortable enough to make my game better.

I understand the projects on your plate are distracting (dust/WOD), but do not lose sight of CCP's cash cow. Do not lose sight of EVE.

I am tired of seeing less and less of my friends log in, lets change that CCP.

That's a big humble pie there Hilmar and you ate it all, crumbs and everything.

For me personally you didn't have to "grovel" and a "ok, we ****** up. lets be friends again" would have sufficed but I understand the necessity to convey it properly. If you come true on your words and deliver properly worked out improvements and show us that you understand which parts of EVE need attention the most we'll love you long time.

What I've been missing is someone going "no, it's not good enough. Try AGAIN" in your team, someone who understands the old eve, wants to excel and demands quality. Like that new cyno you have on sisi; someone should take control and go "no, we strive for something much cooler, this won't do. We will NOT implement half assed stuff again".

If you do what we want you to do, be passionate about EVE and demanding nothing but the best for her, you'll have the most loyal player base of all MMOs out there, again.

Good blog. Certainly a good step in the right direction. I must admit, this made me nervous:

Quote:
Let me be blunt: Unless the MMO business changes radically, our virtual goods strategy for EVE Online will remain limited in scope and focus on vanity items, or as we said after the CSM visit this summer: The investment of money in EVE should not give you an unfair advantage over the investment of time.

To me that says if the entire industry moves in the pay to win format, so will we. That scares me.

That's a good idea. And to unsubbed players as well.

Man, I wish I had been a fly on Hilmar's wall the past few days .. the sighs, gnashing of teeth and uncomfortable moans that must have accompanied the realization he has come to must have been glorious Smile

Top notch grovelling, will read again.

PS: You are right. Eve can be so much more, but like any baby can attest .. running before walking can have some rather nasty (and often bloody) repercussions.

This is very encouraging but i do hope you guys truely know the damage that has been caused.

I just hope that some of the changes are going to involve the restoration of the immersion that for me, and for so many others, has been shattered.

I never truely appreciated until the incarna patch just how SERIOUS this business was to me, and how REAL it felt as a result.

Indestructable, magically spawning out-of-thin-air clothes, buried in some god awful disgusting seedy & greedy cash shop that was staring me in the face everytime i logged in, did it for me more than any lack of ship spinning ever could.

I am hoping that with your new found "insight" you will be able to see that such a monstrosity has no place in our *once* beautiful world, and that is coming from a guy that was desperate to play dress up with barbie.

For me, for business to get serious again, you are simply going to have to take measures that restore the integrity of the sandbox which, up until incarna, was intact.

A really good place to start would be to get players to start making those clothes, probably from bpc's or whatever, and integrate the whole process into the normal market functions so it works just the same as any other manufactured item with it's organic nature of supply and demand in our PLAYER DRIVEN SANDBOX. (remember that?)

As soon as you have done that please find the box you ticked to make those clothes indestructable, and then, you know, UNTICK IT. (quite important that bit, really.)

The next thing to do is take your prices, and then reduce them by average, about 95%. Start with Joe, and work your up dude, not the other way round.

Once you have been kind enough to do those things i would really appreciate it if the items that you can actually manufacture bear some kind of resemblance and connection to the lore of eve online.

Seeing generic, sci-fi inspired drivel does not immerse me in the world of eve, it's just another slap in the face to remind me that what i am doing is just wasting time on a stupid computer game. I do not want to play a stupid computer game, i want my serious business back.

I honestly believe that is possible to combine serious business with serious clothes. What i believe you cannot do, is attempt to combine serious business with the HATS OF TEAM FORTRESS 2.

Serious business needs serious clothes, you get me?

Phil.

Turning the 'oil-tanker' of CCP might take some effort, but a blog like this shows you are starting to lean on the helm.

Good work. Keep these things coming and you'll see the tide turn.

if you community doesnt understand how his love of eve may have blinded him some then you dont deserve a CEO like him. i enjoy this game thoroughly. i dont view what he did as making mistakes, just as things that were not clarified. im defensive about this game myself but patience is a SKILL in eve you must train :)
