I fear a rapier far more than any stealth bomber. A single SB on a carebear ratting ship is kinda lulzy.

So close...

CCP, fix this afk cloaking. I for one am tired with it. You made a game some of us can't play.

Create a POS module which can be installed in a system where you hold the SOV. Module that can be activated and decloak enemy cloaked ships. Every half an hour or one hour, doesn't matter. If they wanna camp, they're free to do it. But they have to be there. Otherwise, using that module, I decloak and kill them. Would give me a chance to do something in return.

Meanwhile, Blizzard wants to thank you cos you made me buy Diablo 3. Click, click, click, kill them monsters ! At least here there's no afk cloak camping.

Hold on Deckard Cain, I'm gonna save you !

AFK cloaking is not a problem for anyone. It is not out of control.. and anyone who is truly AFK is no treat to you or anyone you know.. or anyone you don't know. The cloaked can accompish nothing but collecting info. they have to decloak to do anything. AFK cloakers are not at the keyboard so they are not going to decloak.

Remove all cloaked vessels from local and never worry about the AFK again. You should never know they are there.

  - remove the cloaked from local; free intel is the real problem, not  "afk" cloaking -

How stupid can the guy your quoting be if you and the OP don't know what AFK means.

AFK doesn't mean, at my keyboard, watching a movie, while keeping an eye on the system I'm cloaked in in EVE. That's called multitasking.

Perhaps the OP should read, CCP please fix players that can multitask in a system while cloaked. As moronic as that would have looked at least it's not quite as stupid as complaining about people not even at their computers.

Heh, this is one of the things I love about the internet. So, local provides a tiny bit of information (a name; no ship fitting, more exact location or other info) and that makes it perfect. Well, that's just perfect.

No, dude, local is a powerful tool and should be reduced in power for lowsec and nullsec (I still like my constellation chat idea) but it isn't perfect. Just finding a particular sense in a word's dictionary doesn't make that usage correct in any given context. Also, if your dictionary provides pronunciation advice in the form "pur-fikt" it should be recycled. The dictionary, that is.

why don't you go rat somewhere else, you guys have like 10 decent ratting grounds, if the cloaker follows he aint afk AMIRITE?

It's not about ratting or any other thing you do in your system. It's about you can't do nothing against. CCP said that every ship has a counter ship. Every tactic has a counter tactic. Counter afk cloaking !

The counter to AFK cloaking is deciding which kind of balls you have.

It provides that tidbit of information (also providing what relationship he has with you, a biography, corp history, access to kb information on him[i.e. likely fittings], etc.) perfectly. It is, as you say, a powerful tool (incredibly powerful when used properly) and it is perfectly reliable.

Try it.

You're a goon, not gonna ask you to understand anything. But....Show this to a wiser guy : You never know if someone is afk or not, tell that to the whole alliance that is passing thru system,, industrials who supply POS's, carry stuff around. CLOAKERS CAN DISRUPT THE WHOLE THING AND YOU CANNOT DO ANYTHING TO THEM COS GUESS WHAT ? THEY ARE CLOAKED ! AFK OR NOT ! DO YOU UNDERSTAND ANYTHING ? OFC NOT !

Now...I don't give a shite if I have cloaker(s) in system but for people in an alliance is a pain sometimes. Why don't I give a damn ? Figure it out for yourself.

In High-Sec you can't tell who's actively trying to gank you in local either and there's hundreds of them. I know it's scary Null-Sec carebear but it's called risk vs. reward and you take a risk every time you undock. I don't understand how you could call being semi-afk, casually glancing at local and farming rats only to warp off as soon as a non-blue enters "playing EVE." I think EVE would be better off without you and you should be destroyed.

@ Ruby and Tippia:

Local only provides the name. You can check out all the other stuff from people and places for anyone at any time. Or even from this website. Let me guess, Ruby: your toon was created in January 2009. Magic isn't it! Your main...not so easy, but local won't tell me that either.

I'm not saying a name can't be useful, but that really is all local provides: a name in a certain system. It ain't "perfect intel". This semantic crap will be getting tedious for other forum users so let's drop this now.

An d-scan still needs 'iteration'. Improve/rejig d-scan and lots of these complaints can die CCP.

Local provides the name. The name is kind of important because it's what lets you learn about the person in your Local. Imagine Local that just told you your standings to someone. Much less powerful, huh?

So you agree that local provides nothing but the name and system. Excellent.

Well imagine if local gave precise info on ship location, ship type and ship fitting. Wouldn't that be an improvement over current intel? And if so, then the current intel situation can't be perfect now can it?

Lovely. See, that wasn't so difficult after all was it?

Hasn't AFK cloaking been around since pretty much covert ops cloaks?

EVE is like swimming on a beach in shark infested waters,  There is however a catch...  The EVE Beach you also have to wonder which fellow swimmer will try and eat you before the sharks.

Accurate != perfect. Note the example in the definition you referenced, it's a specific use. Local is a "perfect copy" of some character information, it is not a "perfect intel tool".

There is a lot of intel local does not provide, in the broader and more applicable use it is imperfect.

e.g. Is that person in local docked or in space? That's pretty fundamental to not be provided by a "perfect intelligence tool".

posting in afk cloaking thread #14751

And still the same non-argument. You are not forbidden to undock just because you have a cloaked ship in your system.

There are places in eve that don't even have a local and they are not the ones complaining about afk cloakers in the system. The danger is even bigger but somehow they manage to mine, rat and do their thing without tears. Of course they always fly only ships they can afford to loose, if they are in bigger numbers they even camp the entrance to secure the operation that is going on. Still they can not be sure if someone is already in there sitting 5k from their mining barge, ready to send them back to empire the fast way.

So it is not a game issue. You probably think you have the right for a secure space where you can bring out your officer fitted ratting ship without the risk of loosing it. You don't even think about an alternative to avoid a big loss in case you get ganked.

Also it works both ways. If you rat in a drake while there is clearly a cloaked ship in the system will he attack you? How does he know it's not a trap? I mean it's clearly a trap!! drakes are always a trap!!!! And maybe sometimes it is, and sometimes you just rat.

tl;dr
grow some balls, learn how this game works
