Drone DPS ???

Has anyone run the numbers to compare drone damage type to faction rat requirements while factoring in damage multiplier of the various drone types?

For example, going up against rogue drones ::
Loaded into my Rattlesnake:
Garde = 50 themal damage with damage multiplier = 4.8
Curator = 50 EM damage with multiplier = 3.9

So, ignoring range/tracking issues for now, which sentry delivers more actual DPS ? The Garde with higher overall DPS, or Curator with better rat-specific DPS ?

If you want to compare using other rats and damage types, feel free. Comments please.

This shows how it's done.

Although since you're using sentries it's kinda weird not to include range and tracking as they are at least as important as damage type when talking sentries. Having said that, I think last time I ran the numbers Garde IIs and Curator IIs at Garde optimal (modified by two omnis, which does effectively eliminate both tracking and range considerations) did almost exactly the same amount of damage to Bloods -- and I imagine Sanshas aren't too far off from that.

As with all things drone, thermal is typically a pretty solid damage type, either most preferable or second most preferable except against Angels (though they are fine against Angel frigates; go figure). Combine that with solid tracking on Gardes and you end up with a default preference for carrying a set if you're flying a dedicated sentry boat. The second set varies according to damage type and typical modus operandi has you recalling the racial drones at ~Garde optimal + 1/2 falloff.

But go ahead and run the numbers. If you're going to be doing database mining for ehp-versus-damage type numbers, you might as well factor in orbit range and orbit speed into the equation and see what you come back with.

run the mission/complex twice, once with each sentry type.

Lowest time wins.

I run missions in Gallente space (mostly) and I carry a set of Garde II's by default.

However, I have acquired a new taste for Warden II's. The range and damage is truly astounding.

Never bothered with Curator II's and Bouncer II's before, but I will check them out when I get the chance.

I regularly use Curator II's for Sansha rats who like to orbit out of Garde range. They do OK. Once stuff gets closer in you're usually better to switch to Garde II's as they will do wayyy more damage to everything but Angels.

If you decide to fight Angels, fit either a web, an extra omni, or preferably both -- they like to orbit under 10k and even Gardes can have trouble tracking them that close. Better yet, just move your ship away from your sentries and use Bouncer II's. BOOOOSH

Typical Sansha resists (edit: from Chrukker, but it won't let me link): 45% EM 75% Exp 65% Kin 55% Therm -- these vary a few percentage points up or down but this isn't an atypical spread.

Base Garde II damage before resists: 96

Base Curator II damage before resists: 78

Garde II damage after resists: 43.2

Curator II damage after resists: 42.9

Damage advantage for Garde IIs: .7%

So yeah, if tracking isn't an issue, Curators are fine against Sanshas.

you could also factor in the market prices of the drones in question, cheaper ones might be worth a 2nd look.
